Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Problem is demand isn't there to justify a lot of trains

Hourly Dublin Cork, provides hourly Cork/Dublin to Limerick

Dublin Cork has to stop at Portlaoise to pick up the feed from the commuter service, Thurles is the largest town on the route (and has no direct bus to Dublin, Cork or Limerick), Limerick Junction then Mallow for Kerry

Its a remarkably efficient operation in terms of the options it gives from few trains

A bi hourly stopping service Limerick Dublin all stops would be the best option as every second Cork train could then skip Limerick Junction

There are no empty trains, simply some trains run as 3 or 4 coaches others 6 or 7 coaches and can mix and match to balance

Changing at Limerick J is quicker than going direct. Hourly Cork & Limerick just isn't viable and never will be even with investment.

Now improved capacity between Limerick-Limerick J would be the way to go, way to many delays. Cork trains could spend 15 minutes at the junction regularly.

While a more realistic solution, economics still couldn't justify it. Cork trains not connecting with Tralee are relatively lightly loaded today, extra Limerick would just increase costs.

Probably not. One of the down trains could be a 3x3 or 3x4 which are split to provide the extra up train.
A similar arrangement on the Cork run where the 2100 has 2 ICR but returns as 2 separate services in the morning.
Only issue is a driver without a train.

A driver might travel "on the cushions".

Annacotty being viable for UL-commuting students shows the quality of that analysis

It would be worth explaining that one.

(ex UL student here) it's a bit of a hike - 5.2km from a likely station location to the Stables. College is expanding north across the river not east towards Annacotty. In hindsight it wasn't the greatest place to plunk UL from a public transport point of view and it's waaaaaaaaay too late now to reroute the Nenagh line to join the Ennis line at the Parkway - it was already too late when I was there in the mid 90s.

Does anyone frequently get the 8:15 intercity service from Maynooth to Connolly, would you usually get a seat or does it be booked up?
