Trying to remember old formula

Very embarrassing but doing x+y=100 formula and i can't get a negative number.

My equation is simple : 134x +5y = 4036
And the second line is : 137x + 29y = 4650.94

I can't thinking of working anything out where x and y stay as positives. All answers I've gotten have had a negative which i can't use.

Sure, you'll be kicking yourself at how easy it is.
What I did was multiply the first equation by 29 and the second equation by 5. We now have an equal number of x terms in both equations. Subtract the second equation from the first, and we eliminate the x terms, then solve for y and slot this value back into either equation and solve for x.

That make sense??

 3886x  - 685x = 117044-[font=Arial","sans-serif]23254.7[/font]
3886x  - 685x = 93789.3
X = 29.3

[font=Arial","sans-serif]3962.2 + 5y = 4036[/font]
[font=Arial","sans-serif]5y = 4036 – 3962.2[/font]
[font=Arial","sans-serif]Y = 109.8/5[/font]
[font=Arial","sans-serif]Y = 21.96[/font]

Hope that makes a bit of sense also.

Not sure what you mean, x & y fits both formulas

29.3 * 134 = 3926.2
21.96 * 5 = 109.8
3926.2 + 109.8 = 4036

29.3 * 137 = 4014.1
21.96 * 29 = 636.84
4014.1 + 636.84 = 4650.94

Ok being on 4 hours sleep doesn't help .
