Took a few snaps (and a short video) of the rolling countryside here, absolutely covered in a blanket of snow.

The difference in the sky when looking west - east is astounding.

This was way earlier in the day, took it out of the sky just before a major flurry hit us again.

The yard I cleared earlier is as bad as ever, and it's blizzard style conditions as I type this.

    Enjoy.

And do we possibly overuse the term once in a lifetime..2010 was also once in a lifetime and that wasn't even ten years ago :pac:

I don't remember 2010 being described as once in a lifetime.
I'm pretty sure "once in 50 years" was used, but they were talking about how long the cold hung around and grit supplies.

Anyone know of a website that gives the current amount of snow accumulations in each area/county/town? I have a number of options for travelling home, and want to assess which one would be best

I think 'Blizzard' has been the most overused term here. Snows for a little bit and people declare blizzard.

You can get a cream for that, but not really an issue for the weather forum.

    I was 9 in 1982 & I still remember it clearly.
Sideways snow howling at the windows for hours, no man or beast could go out in it, drifts you could disappear into once it had cleared.

Many younger fourumers wont remember it so 2010 will be their benchmark.
If tomorrow shapes up like those charts are predicting we're in for another '82.

It's been 36 years so it's time for that once in a generation event.

You're right, I was trying to think of the right word for them. :D:D

Anyway, my sympathy is not any less.

I've told my kids many times about jumping out my bedroom window into the snow in 1982 and they've never believed it.

I'm hoping for similar by Friday so I can prove it. :pac:

Well its blowing a gale here on the coast, gusts seem to be in excess of 40kt. Freezing hard with icycles forming - extremely rare to have sub zero temps with an onshore gale here. Maybe I won't get any more significant accumulations from the convective event due to the Holyhead shadow and the strength of the wind, but will see what the evening/night brings.

Snow fall seems to be getting heavier by the minute here in Kinsale - really fine and powdery snow accumulating rapidly. Do any of the experts know how long this particular shower might last? I’ve never seen snow like this in Ireland.

Yip .. Im near you in Carrigaline. I have the same Q. Small dry pellets of snow, very powdery and lots of it when it falls. Wind is blowing too so you can see these pellets being blown off top of hedges etc.

Here are some pics to illustrate:

Its of interesting consistency, not what we are used to in that its not wet, slushy!

Spontaneous blizzards just outside Navan Meath. Goes from completely calm and no snow, to extremely windy and heavy snow so suddenly.

We had drifts over the back door in 82. We had to dig out to get to the coal bunker.
