As others have said the bolded bit is important. We are not the only country to be taking this seriously Britain, France, Germany even Russia(who know bad weather).

Shocked to hear TII have 330 vehicles for plowing and gritting. Note: Thats just M and large N roads, local stuff is up to LAs.

Earlier today the snow was dazzling bright.

Ten minutes later the clouds rolled in and there was a snow flurry and the the wind was blowing the power off the ground too and visibility dropped way down.

We have a Nordic client disputing the severity of this weather event. Doesn't matter really, if people can't commute by public transport, we ain't open.

Hopefully your husband and his colleagues don't have too much of an issue looking for another job. Would not like working with someone so unreasonable. A mate of mine lives across the road from where he works and he worked from home today!

exactly, they get this type of weather frequently so it's financially viable to prepare for it and to have all the workarounds.
in our case because freak weather is rare it's easier just to shut down for the couple of days. granted such weather events are supposibly going to get worse so eventually it will get to the stage where we will have to implement workarounds.

people don't need to grow up as they are grown up. given the severe weather the country does need to do as little as possible to insure the safety of the populous. so if you can, stay at home, keep the strain on the emergency services to a minimum.

it's about minimizing potential accidents due to the weather, and minimising the strain on the emergency services, who will be kept busier then normal. the weather is potentially life threatening, and the government warnings must be heeded as they are given for good reason.

The uk has stopped, Rome stopped a couple of days ago, Poland and Germany closed a lot of services and roads. It’s common sense to advise and not put people at risk. My work told us to work from home today. Roads were impassable until mid day. Pretty much an inch of compacted ice.

The country is not shut down but a common sense approach is being taken to an extreme and unusual weather event.

I think the government, county councils etc deserve some credit for the response to some of the recent weather events and most likely serious incidents have been avoided.

Apart from the disruption it is actually really nice. Went for a lunch time stomp through the snow. There was people out everywhere walking, building snowmen and pelting snowballs.

I laughed when I read that . We have a Polish lad in the stores and he pretty much walked off the job saying he was going home due to the bad weather etc . The job is in citywest and lives around the corner . Nobody up to that point had said they were leaving early!

Watching from afar I don't get it. This is obviously expected to be an exceptional(to Ireland) and severe event and people are disputing the severity. People were killed in Ophelia. If one life is even saved the warning is enough.

Also bosses expecting their staff to travel greedy twats. Provisions should be in place for such rarities.

Well I didn't laugh or mock when the Poles had trouble dealing with Atlantic waves . Quite a few Poles learned the hard way that they can get swept off rocks while fishing. Its all about being used to weather and dealing with it
There is no comparison between countries that get this kind of snow regularly , they can justify spending huge money on resources because they use them all winter .

I think the point here is that it isnt fair that some people get more or less snow than others. Whether a persons preference is to want it or not want it is by the way - to each his own. But every one should have an equal share. The fault here lies squarely with the government and their total lack of planning and resources to deal with this kind of weather. The north west would appear to have been completely ignored again today, but nothing unusual there. Its all about Dublin, even in such matters as depth of snow.
