Is it worthwhile trying to get this old iMac working?

I've been given an old iMac. The label says 17", 1.83 Ghz, 512 MB, 160 GB. The HD was removed from it to copy to a newer Apple. The power cable is also misssing. I'm familiar enough with PCs but never had anything to do with any Apples before. Is it worth trying to get it going, just for interest, and roughly what's involved? Any advice, including "throw it out", appreciated.

It depends on what you want to use it for. If you want to render 3D graphics etc.... maybe not. But light web browsing, emailing, music player etc. it should be fine.

I'd put a SSD hard drive in it - it takes a 3.5" SATA drive, so just get a 2.5" drive, and and adapter to secure

And for power cord - is this just the "kettle lead"? Surely you can get one in a Woodies I think?

You'll need an OS installation disc, or at least a .dmg file of the installation media on a USB - it's apparently Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
