What is even the difference between blizzard and blizzard-like?

The same difference between being alive and life-like - the appearance is almost the same.

What is even the difference between blizzard and blizzard-like?

Blizzard has set criteria (for sustained winds above a certain amount that I can't remember :o ) but blizzard like is just what people call it when snow is blowing everwhere

Looks like Greystones is set to miss out!

Bet we get the gale force winds of storm emma but no snow. :(

What is even the difference between blizzard and blizzard-like?

A blizzard is a severe snowstorm characterized by strong sustained winds of at least 35 mph (56 km/h) and lasting for a prolonged period of time—typically three hours or more.

From wiki. So today is a blizzard.

Dont know where you are but its accumulating where I am out on the dunmore road

Six cross roads. I cleared the drive about 2 hours ago and its still as clear as ever, I can see some melt out the back against the fences where the snow had drifted

Very little of anything here in south Tipp. Kinda disappointing tbh.

The thing here is that average snow doesn’t include the drifts, which will be significant tonight.

The snow is trying to thaw around Balbriggan, especially near buildings.
Im starting to think the snow cover here may have peaked. Its been snowing on and off all day but the overall snow cover has slowly shrunk. If conditions get any more marginal it will be all a slushy mess.

"A blizzard is a severe snowstorm characterized by strong sustained winds of at least 35 mph (56 km/h) and lasting for a prolonged period of time—typically three hours or more. A ground blizzard is a weather condition where snow is not falling but loose snow on the ground is lifted and blown by strong winds."

Quick word on emergency services - a friend of mine is a nurse in Tallaght children's hospital, she left home at 7am this morning on foot for her 8.30 shift, 90 minute walk in, will be in until 8.30 tonight in full knowledge that means staying in the hospital overnight tonight, with her own 4 kids at home with their dad. Incredible dedication.

Also baffles me that the nurses there will be staying in the hospital overnight while the doctors and consultants doing the same shifts are being ferried to local hotels. Nurses treated as second class citizens for no good reason.

I am getting very worried here the forecast is not going to materialise here.

Snow is falling all afternoon but we are thawing rather than accumulating.

Crazy, Maynooth is blizzard conditions now. Snow is seriously pilling up!

That's a surprise if the snow is quite heavy.

Thread going so fast, I've read the last 6 pages

Is there still snow for Dublin with storm Emma as bad as predicted?

    Also what about tomorrow?

    Thanks

Getting gusty here but much milder with it. Still laying icy, dry snow but grass poking through - Will Emma bring rain to the northwest do you think?

    South Sligo 90m asl

Great time in the snow here. Snowman built (our biggest to date). Slid down hill on the windsurf board about a thousand times. Snowball fight.
Now time for pizza and a movie.

Same here in Dublin 18, a few showers of snow this morning but overall a noticeable decline in snow on the ground since yesterday.

I think Emma is supposed to bring more snow, not sure if it's going to lie.
