I just they should probably have a look at the system in place with regards to the weather warnings for the future. The likes of limerick could easily function today, with regards to schools and businesses.

It's all about covering your back in that room.

Wonder will this be Ireland's equivalent of the UK's Great West Country Blizzard of March 1891..

Showers getting stronger here in D6w as is the wind. That'll keep me happy until the main event begins.

And what about when it’s 6 o clock and people have to try and get home in a once in a lifetime blizzard?

I think it’s better safe than sorry with these things, if someone got hurt or some other avoidable tragedy occurred, it would put the functioning of schools and business into perspective pretty quickly.

Why do streamers regularly miss south east dublin city? Most seem to go north and the few that head to south dublin seem to skip over coastal areas and then become strong in west dublin and kildare

Something to do with the Welch. Revenge for the Rugby most likely.

Siobhan Ryan on RTÉ 1, Joanna on the radio, Jean seen recently on tv, and Evelyn helping out with the government emergency committee. But Gerry Murphy is nowhere to be seen!

Gerry hates using the word snow even in the impending Blizzard he would ramp it up as sleet

Constant light snow with a slight top up(South Dub coast). Wonder if the bulkier ppn south of Anglesey will turn things up a notch or two or if it will be late evening before the weather really turns in

It has been snowing lightly all day with the exception of about a 30 minute pause in Dundrum/Ballinteer. Wind and intensity of the snow is picking up. It doesn't look like it is accumulating, but I think that is due to the wind blowing the snow all about! Pavements are lethal where the snow has blown away, just a big sheet of ice and you can hear it cracking underfoot. Some wet snow would be nice to cover up the bare spots.

Firhouse - my sister lives about 2 miles from them but she says the roads are lethal. I wonder if there is a general emergency number that can be rung (other than 999) for getting assistance to move from one location to another. No panic yet but nice if such a thing exists all the same.

Main roads in Firhouse are ok for driving at the moment, live around there and just in from walking the dog, estates are manageable once taken slowly

It’s my daughter’s 10th birthday today and despite having to cancel her party plans for the weekend she is absolutely thrilled with the snow! She said herself “not many people can say they had a snow day as a birthday!

Snowing all morning, short respite for a couple of hours in the early afternoon but snowing solid for the last hour here.

    Just outside Carlow town

A few hours ago in Louth, not that much snow is accumulating because of the wind, but some nice drifts starting to form. Can't wait for the actual storm to start!!

    You are completely wrong.

Well that's just your opinion. In my opinion, based on my own travels yesterday by public transport, and today by car, for Dublin, these alerts are completely unnecessary and costing the country millions. This and the storm Ophelia nonsense is costing small business that they cannot afford. This is winter in Ireland. We are getting the tail end of this weather cycle. Guess what? We live in a small cold country and we get snow sometimes. Put on thermals. Toughen up.

South dublin could have too. But the problem is how do you keep transport services running that would work fine in half of the city but then run into severe blizzards and very high snow in north dublin
Thats why theres a warning in place

The wife's been looking through the sitting room window for the past hour. If the weather gets any worse I'll let her back inside.
