Yeah too little too late sadly. Powell not even at the crease yet! Unless a few dominos start to fall....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

    Maybe a twist?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,822 Mod ✭✭✭✭riffmongous

Sixes and wickets at the moment, 5 down now but only 26 needed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Chance missed there too! WI might get a bit nervous here towards the end

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,404 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

And another. Good end to this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

    Got him! Game on perhaps!

Some really poor players left, Paul is a good bat

Do we need WIndies to win this?

    No. Ideally a zim win

Suspect they'll look to kill it this over. Early wicket would be just dandy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

11 needed from 12. Wickets in hand and they rotating strike well. Hard to see Zim doing this

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    All over.

    Come on uae!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Always had the look of 20-25 runs short there Zimbabwe, shame cos 300+ was well within their ambit most of their innings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

That was a good chase from West Indies. UAE and their rabble of Pakistani expats are our only hope, come on Pakistani division 20.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,732 ✭✭✭BarryD2

Fair dues to the West Indies - they kept their heads and chased it down. Would that we batted that way against them and Zim.

Still apparently Windies 5th highest ODI chase.

Let's be honest though, we don't deserve to be in the WC after these two losses, and even in a normal sized WC, we'd still realistically only be targeting those 2 games plus the other Associate (Bangladesh are probably beyond us now). All we are missing out on is a few hammerings, which means we're probably better off than being exposed on the world stage ahead of our test debut

UAE v Afghanistan today. Doesn't really matter a whole load to us but UAE win would be nice to build confidence for them before the Zimbabwe game.

Would mean Afghanistan have zero hope of qualifying too (whatever little they have now).

    UAE 59/3 after 22

    124-7 now

Wham, bam at the close it seems. Sixes or wickets. Should be an easy chase for Afg.

Afghans struggling in the chase. 50/4 after 13 overs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

    54-5 now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,404 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

Steadied the ship now and should win comfortably from here you'd imagine.

    110/5 with 23 overs remaining

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,861 ✭✭✭Mysterypunter

Raced to 178-5 Afghanistan win by 5 wickets

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,404 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

Scotland won the toss and chose to field.

Chris Gayle caught off the first ball.

West Indies 0/1 after first over

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,404 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

    And another

    3/2 after 3 overs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,404 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

158/6 with 10 overs to go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,581 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

    What suits us here?

Doesn't really matter. What we need is UAE to beat Zimbabwe, which on current form is unlikely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,605 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

    8 down

Might just beat 200 at this rate

Although looking at table, if Scotland win and UAE win, then we just need a win to get through, no need to look at NRR. Right?

A Scotland win would suit us. Have a feeling that if the windies miss out the ICC may very well change the qualification rules to ensure they are at the world cup. While this would be ridiculous it's not beyond the ICC and we might v well get in on their cost tails, especially if we beat Afghanistan.

But in the event that UAE do beat Zim, then a WI win is better.

If Scotland win, then it is NRR between us and WI, If WI win NRR doesn't matter.

    9 down. 10 balls left.

If Scotland win and zimbabwee win against uae. Both those teams would be on 7 pts. We can only get to 6 pts so would be out as would the windies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,404 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

All out for 198, creeping closer to a West Indies-less World Cup

Yes, agreed, we need UAE to beat Zim which is unlikely.

I think 199 will be tough chase against the WI quicks.

Good stuff from Scotland. If we don't qualify, surely hope they will and stuff it to the ICC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Great performance so far. Scotland now the bookies favs, not sure about that but given themselves a solid chance at least

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,404 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

Worth remembering that this is Scotland...masters of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, regardless of the sport

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,449 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

Coetzer gone for just 2 runs. That's a huge wicket. Windies are back as favourites now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 120 ✭✭evancunny95

    And another one...13/2 now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,404 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

    Cross gone as well.

    13/2 after 25 balls

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,404 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

    33/3 after 9 overs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Steadied a bit now, stopped the bleeding at least.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,449 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

Only 10 runs in the last 5 overs. Not looking good for the Scots.

On a related note, was there ever any sort of an explanation from the ICC as to why they're the only sport that's actively reducing participation in their world cup? Saw the below on the BBC website:
2018 the Hockey World Cup grows from 12 to 16 teams.

In 2019 the Basketball World Cup grows from 24 to 32 teams.

In 2026 the Fifa World Cup grows from 32 to 48 teams.

In 2019 the Cricket World Cup shrinks from 14 to 10 teams.

Cricket's gone from 16 teams in the WC in 2007 to just 10 in 2019.

Think the Scots are doing ok. Much more important to keep wickets and not worry too much about run rate. These two doing a good job.

As for expansion, I leave that for more knowledgeable posters to answer, but I do not agree with a 48 team World Cup finals in soccer, nor with the recent expansion of the European Championship finals. It's quantity over quality and seems about merely expanding revenue streams. The whole thing becomes bloated and is diminished as a spectacle imho.
