Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Not just 6,4 ... drop, 6, 4

    Typical Shahzad really :-(

To many dot balls. Created to much pressure. Top 3 all played same way. Sometimes you need one to hang around and other to attack a bit. Maybe nerves got in the way in not throwing away their wicket

    A good 20 runs short I think

apart from the wide that was a good response

    SNIP

Those 20 runs (or more) went a begging when Stirling and Niall both fell together. The top 3 really didn't bat the same way, Stirling was a bit more positive, Balbirnie more circumspect but never got going.

If we lose this I'll be looking mostly at the Stirling run out but also at McCarthy dropping the Shahzad caught and bowled (always tough). We're also bowling a few too many gifts so far letting Afhanistan keep the runs flowing too easily.

I reckon our goose is cooked. Scoring rate by Porterfield and Balbirnie in earlier overs was too ponderous.

    43/0 9.0

    wickets needed

Is Boyd Rankin wearing a Smart Watch?

I'm fairly sure private communications devices are banned from the dressing room and obviously the pitch. You definitely cannot have a phone in the dressing room due to match fixing protocols.

Stick a fork in us, we are done

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,093 ✭✭✭Patser

Yep they're comfortable now, need sudden collapse of top order to put pressure on.

Not looking hopeful for us really.

53/0 after 10. Haven't looked close to getting a wicket.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

We do need something to happen, couple of quick wickets just to get nerves jangling. Thoroughly professional display from Afghanistan thus far you'd have to concede.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,441 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

And to think that Afghanistan wouldn't even have made the Super Six were it not for Hong Kong's loss to Nepal in the final game of their group.
We'll need a collapse like they had against Zimbabwe to have any chance.

This is me at work... Doesn't look like it's going to be worth the effort though, far too easy so far by Afghanistan...

Lol, Shahzad dropped by McCarthy and just snuck one past the slip there.

Get the pipe, slippers and cocoa out for these guys, they're so comfortable. We'll need wickets and fast. Doesn't look likely, but cricket is a strange game. Hanging on to that hope.

It's amazing how they lost 3 of their games in the first stage of the competition.

    Is the game over?

Good few overs from McBrine and Simi. But need wickets, not dot balls.

Just about to go into the 16th over. Afghanistan on 80 without loss

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Just nothing happened at all. Didn't get going batting wise or bowling wise. Very frustrating. Goosed now short of a miracle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,446 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

    Wicket. Eventually.

Thanks, was just commenting that it isn't, whatever the score. I played for a team years ago, 38-0 off 10, ended up 45 all out off 22. Could do with a crazy collapse here, batted like they were afraid of being blitzed, and look 50 short

What price are Ireland from here? asking for a friend

    Who won the toss?

We did and chose to bat..

Might have worked out but if you do that, you need to score runs.

I think that decision belies a lack of confidence (probably justifiably) in our batting and ability to chase a reasonable target.

But either way, it could still be embarrassing if these lads continue as they are. Though see one gone now.

    11/1 on 365. 8/1 on PP.
Need to get another few wickets very quickly. We've seen Afghanistan collapse already in this tournament.

O'Brien's accent is very Dub.. :D

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,441 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

Only 16 runs for the last 5 overs. Another wicket would give us a chance.

    ton up

    in less than 22 overs

PP still have Ireland at 8/1. Not tempted by that price, more like a 50/1 shot in my book.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 259 ✭✭Claregaafan18

If we do lose then serious question marks must be raised towards Graham Ford and his coaching team about the conservative batting display we produced today, where it was clear the objective was to not lose wickets. I had high hopes from Ford but our displays in Zimbabwe have clearly been a major disappointment.

    2 down

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Singh giving us some (very) faint hope at least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 584 ✭✭✭CiarraiAbu2

Ireland and WI must be wondering why they let Phil Simmons go

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,584 ✭✭✭skeleton_boy

2 runs and a wicket from the last 2 overs. Need a few more of those

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,672 ✭✭✭ScummyMan

Dare I suggest the Afghans are starting to falter a tad??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,732 ✭✭✭BarryD2

Afghans seem to shrunk back a bit. They seem to be playing sensibly though, it's very definitely in their hands to win it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,579 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

3 down both set batsmen out

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,186 ✭✭✭munsterlegend

3 down and a good batsman too. Rankin bowling very well.
