When reporting a post/user, there is no way of telling which mod dealt/decided not to deal with the issue.

Why is that exactly? It's a layer of secrecy that frankly protects the underperforming mods and drags down the ones actually doing it well.

For example, if one was to report a post clearly in violation of the charter and yet nothing is done.....how can you make a complaint if you don't know which mod chose to ignore it?

On the flipside of that, if a user gets carded, the only person who knows which mod performed said action is usually the user himself. The rest of the users participation in the thread have no idea.

The admins have access to that information......why shouldn't the users of the site? Where would be the harm in a message displaying below a post saying something along the lines of "This post was reviewed by InsertName and deemed acceptbale" or "This post was reviewed by InsertName and was carded for the following reason". Not just a reason, but the mod in question.

To be clear, I'm not advocating witch hunting but surely there has to be a mechanism in place for protecting the forum from mods performing poorly by either ignoring rule breaking or being overzealous towards certain individuals.

I can of course give examples of both but I'd rather not. I just think the quality of modding would improve if there was some publicity to who was doing what.

    Hi Kirby,

Thanks for your suggestion. If you think that something has been missed, it's worth contacting the mods via Private Message. Where people have concerns about moderation in general (if one feels that clear breaches are consistently ignored, for example), it's best to contact the CMods. They can raise issues with the mods and are in a good position to see if additional resources are required or if there needs to be a conversation about moderation of certain things.

When mod action is taken, there are steps to take if someone feels that it's incorrect. This starts with contacting the mod directly and from there they can start a thread in the Dispute Resolution forum. This lets them highlight the incident to CMods and, if unhappy with the outcome there, Admins. You can be sure that if the same individual pops up in Dispute Resolution and that action isn't warranted, the CMods will be asking questions.

There's a couple of other considerations to bear in mind too. People may not take kindly to the fact that there's an "approved" tag attached to their post - a) because of the connotations that posts have to be judged as acceptable by a moderator and b) because someone reported their post, which may become their focus/a point of discussion from that point on.

Reported Posts are sometimes handled collectively with mods discussing action to be taken. Or alternatively, they could look at the Reported Post themselves and also think no further action is required. In cases like these, it would be harder to tell the full story.

Anything implemented to track mod actions or approvals would require development time too, which is currently being used elsewhere.

I would encourage you to highlight issues to mods via PM and CMods, if necessary. We have also said that we will be reviewing inactive mods, as Beasty said here https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=106294338&postcount=2156
