New political parties doomed?

The emergence of the 5 star movement in Italy with its youthful leader going from zero to hero in few short years is proof that it can happen.

Whether it turns out to be just a flash in the pan is another thing but it does show that an alternative party, using alternative methods, can force their way to the fore and demand their time to shine.
If they can deliver, they could be in it for the long haul. The movement may even spread to other countries.

Establishment parties tend set the ground rules for these things, which rules are apparently set in stone, but only until the day those parties are overturned and turfed out.
