There are plenty of clans that are LGBT+ friendly for most games.
I don't think there's anything similar to LDN Gaymers in Ireland that I know of.

Given that there's LGBT social groups in nearly every area you can think of - rugby, hiking, cinema and book clubs, etc - is it really that odd that there would be LGBT gamer groups? It's another way to socialise and meet people. :)

Please don't take this the wrong way, but it could also be seen as exclusionary of non-LGBT players, 2 steps away from an echo chamber.

Funny thing, in our FGC we have a handful of gay guys. I never even copped that they swung that way, I was more focused on trying to beat them at Street Fighter & Tekken.

Totally agree. Why can't we all just get along???

Men's Sheds could be seen as exclusionary to women or the ICA could be seen as exclusionary to men but if people get something positive out of them, what difference does it make? If someone wants to set up a group for LGBT gamers, it wouldn't really bother me.

I'd honestly wouldn't even think about sexuality or sexual orientation when it comes to gaming and talking to people about games but maybe that's because I'm a straight male, who knows.

Who's to say such a group would be exclusionary of straight people? IIRC the gay rugby club in Dublin welcomes straight players, I'm sure similar groups are the same.

I don't see how it's any more exclusionary or an echo-chamber than, let's say, a group of Irish emigrants abroad setting up a soccer or GAA club to socialise, or something like that. Seems like a good way to meet like-minded people, doesn't mean the people involved wouldn't be involved in broader gaming groups.

But seriously folks, it’s a perfectly reasonable, straightforward request from the OP. Can we just please treat it as such?

We would gladly welcome new players!
Heck, our current people's champ (https://twitter.com/UYU_Fergus) started off as a nobody & gradually built himself up into a Top-5 Tekken EU player.

Also, the fact that the LGBT 'scene' tends to revolve around pubs is really dispiriting. In a lot of smaller cities, including Galway until recently, the gay bar was the only specific space in the city to meet other LGBT people, which is crap if you don't drink or aren't particular confident socially. When I was younger and not particularly happy or confident about my sexuality something like this would be a friendly enough way to meet other people, so I think people were a bit unfairly dismissive of the OP.

I've never felt the need to disclose my sexuality online or to a gaming group.
Why is there the need ? we're all just gamers no ?

There's a bit of a difference though if it's a gaming group within a LGBT sphere. Like the gaming thread in the LGBT forum. It's a place within a gay community for people to discuss games.

A gay thread within a general gaming community does come across as exclusionary. As this is a place for everyone to interact, there shouldn't be limits placed on people because of traits they were born with.

That's just my own 2c anyway, not being critical of the OP (and I hope he finds some fellow gaymers!)

Well, I guess it makes sense to some people.

After far too many years of online gaming, especially in WoW you'll see an awful lot of homophobic/transphobic comments being thrown around. Some people literally just don't want to see that or deal with it when all they want to do is play games.

Gamers are certainly one large culture, but it's safe to say there are thousands of sub-cultures involved in them too. You'll often see groups comprised entirely of Russians, Irish, French, Polish and so on.

There's absolutely no harm in some people from the LGBT community wanting a separate gaming group to just chill out with other people with the same background as them, and considerably less likely to deal with personal abuse based on their sexuality.

I don't recall anyone saying it was exclusionary when there was a woman on here a couple of weeks ago looking for other female players.

There's plenty of threads on here that have zero interest to me, I wouldn't feel excluded by them.

I don’t think that was the intention at all, at least in my reading of the OP. I mean, both gaming and LGBT forums seem like equally obvious starting points for the OP’s request and suggestion... you’ll be addressing a minority in either case. There was no indication given that this forum would house some exclusionary group... merely a starting point to help find some like-minded people to socialise with elsewhere :)

Not that there’d be any issue whatsoever with an LGBT thread here, mind. There’s always going to be threads (probably even a majority of them!) in this forum many individual posters aren’t interested in, but that’s the nature of a general forum. As long as they aren’t actually hostile to others, there’s plenty of space here :)
