Now this is a badly, badly needed potential addition after the monstrosity of the WR moves by the Ravens so far.

They better not let him leave the building without signing.

Ryan Grant They sent him packing today failed a medical. He wont be joining the Ravens

And the exact same has just happened to Breeland with the Panthers. What the hell is it with Redskins and injuries (although this one was a non-football one)?

Sheldon Richardson has signed with the Vikings, one year after the Seahawks traded a 2nd rounder and Kearse for him

was it just a coincidence Grant failed the physical around the same time Crabtree was released??

Interesting to see if a team takes a run at Meredith or Fuller from the Bears. Having spent so much money in FA they may not have too much cap set aside to deal with offers they might get.

Packers have signed the Bear’s Kyle Fuller to an offer sheet. Bears have to match now or lose him with no compensation. Could turn out to be a stupid move by the Bears not to tag him. On the opposite side, good move by the Packers either way, worst case their division rival has to pay up more money for him.

The transition tag always made far more sense than the franchise tag.

That said if the $4m we've paid to keep Sims for some stupid reason is the difference between keeping Fuller and losing him then Ryan Pace has a lot to answer for.

Edit: It's interesting that this offer counts against the Packers cap immediately, so they probably have no money left to negotiate with other FAs now for the next 5 days until we match and the money is free'd up again.

If it's a ridiculous offer the Packers can just have him.

To be honest if the Packers could get Fuller, we wouldn't need to look at any other free agents anywhere, I think. Him, Jimmy Graham and Mo Wilkerson would be a huge success for GB with two filling big needs and the other if he can play like he did under Pettine with the Jets would be an awesome boost too. I expect us to go EDGe in round 1 and WR in round 2, maybe an ILB and slot CB in the mid/late rounds and after that it's really anyone's guess.

Point I was making though was in the next 5 days multiple FAs that the Packers couldn't negotiate with could be signed up by other teams. So if we do end up matching, the Pack will have succeeded in driving up the price we pay but they will also have missed out on some other FA targets in the process.

I know Grant got hurt the end of the season but did Breeland have any issues during the season seems like a cut on his foot stopped the Panthers signing him.

We should have waited until a few minutes before the deadline to waste the Packers time but oh well.

It's actually a great contract with most of guaranteed money in the first year. He'll either go on to have another great season or regress to being the average CB he was before 2017 and we can move on if we want. Thank you to the Packers for negotiating the deal for Pace while he worked on bringing in players on offense.

I thought it would be a hell of a lot worse, the Packers probably didn't have the cap to really turn the screw on the Bears, but I doubt it is one that they would have made by choice. Obviously if he regresses badly it is a painless cut but if he is good but not great do they cut him or keep paying him top 5 CB money?

Guess it depends on how good FA & the draft is for CBs next year and just how 'not great' he plays. Not crippling with only like $4m in dead money if it doesn't work out.

Honestly I'm not a big Fuller guy yet. Lots of people think he's elite but I'm not sure yet. One good (contract) season doesn't make me forget about the first 3.

Being reported now that the dead money would be $12m if cut next year, so it's essentially a 2 year deal as he won't be cut. After 2019 we could cut him without penalty though.

I think the Ravens have probably played it a little dirty with Ryan Grant on this one, but man, that’s a much better signing and one that was so badly needed.

If they fix up the boundaries a bit, with Watson back on offense and Watt on defense that's a serious, serious team. Watson didn't have enough playing time to properly compare to the likes of RGIII, Newton, Ben or Russel Wilson's rookie years, but in terms of when he was on the field he was the most impressive rookie QB I've ever seen.

There has to be something we don't know about if Honey Badger is taking a 1 year deal for $7 million. It just stinks of there being some issue behind the scenes that we are unaware of.

Guy is trying to get paid.

Betting on yourself seems to be a trend in the nfl at the moment (although idk, Cousins situation could be making me think that).

There you go with the hyperbole again. Watson certainly looked good but best ever rookie is just way, way ott.
Let's just go with recent ones, Andrew Luck was extremely impressive in his rookie season, Russel Wilson and RG3 were great and Cam Newton was out of this world almost.

Go back a little further and Matt Ryan impressed too and a bit further back and Big Ben was superb in his rookie season.

You do say admit that he didn't play that many games which is fair enough but to put him up as greatest all time rookie having played in less than half the regular season is just going way over the top.

I'd have thought he was worth much more than that already. Like that money doesn't put him in the top 20, maybe even top 30 earners among defensive backs.

I'm not. I don't love Fuller as much as most of our fanbase seems to based off of 1 season (in which he whiffed on an unbelievable amount of tackles. He's not a great tackler.)

If the Packers were to sign him up to an offer sheet we couldn't/weren't willing to match it would have been for an unbelievable amount of money. They would have been taking the risk that he doesn't regress as well as putting themselves into an even worse cap position.

As it turns out, the Pack have negotiated a fairly decent deal for both Fuller and the Bears. Very strangely structured and not the way Pace would have done it based off his history, but the Packers legitimitely wanted Fuller and had to make it work with their cap which is why is it so strange (backloaded, only $6.5m cap hit this year).

    Huge trade -

    Jets get #3 pick
    Colts get #6, #37, #49 and a 2019 2nd

Great deal for the Colts for me. Picking up 3 2nd's and might still land the guy they want at #6 anyways (Chubb or Nelson probably)

Who do the Jets want at 3? Didn't they just sign Bridgewater?

Teddy was 1 year - 15m and McCown was 1 year - 10m. Seems pricey 25M into those two, and then spending 3 2nds to move up 3 spots. Definitely moving up for a QB though, I'd be amazed if you're giving that amount up for anything else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,638 ✭✭✭phatkev

Moving up to three, getting a qb, and not giving up a future first is good business in my eyes,! Although I may be looking at it through rose tinted glasses

Mccown is gone after the year and I don't think you can have any long term trust in Bridgewater giving his injury history! I think it's only right they go qb in the first

You haven't mentioned the dead cap though. Because $20m is a signing bonus, if they cut him after 2 years, ie before the base salary ramps up, there's still $9m in dead cap that will impact over the final 2 years. Outside of Fuller living up to last season's form it is very hard to 'win' with this contract.

Is this just as good as releasing... I mean a 7th rounder hasgot to be next to worthless in the grand scheme.

Avoids any cap hit by just releasing him. Probably why they looked for a trade than just releasing. Having said that not sure what his contract was or what the hit would have been.

Yeah, Grant’s injury was believed to be a case of a ‘better receiver becoming available after the deal was agreed’.

He's still a good player, but JPP's drop off from being arguably the most dangerous defensive lineman in the league not named JJ Watt to where he is now has been quite the fall.
