Attic Insulation Air Vents - How Many

We have a 55 m2 attic and looking to get the insulation upgraded . Existing insulation of 100 mm is about 10 years old and seems to have come out in places with after the electric rework in the house last year . 
I was told that tile vents are compulsory for SEAI grant but not sure how many . We've been quoted for 4,5 and 8 vents by different installers . Is there a way to know how many vents are required , is it 2 on each elevation wich makes it 8 in total or will 4 suffice ?
We are looking to get 300 mil on top of what we have up there so I am not sure if we need more than 4 ? There is
