Gas cooker burning bottoms

SO when I had no electricity I invested in a basic ( cheap) gas cooker.

The sales lady advised it was not good at baking but i thought she was trying to sell me a costlier model..

Alas; made scones and the bottoms burned before the top browned...


Any thoughts please?

Where in the oven did you have the baking tray? Top, middle or bottom?

Even a cheap electric will not give great baking results.

However gas itself is sorta problematic. A lot of intense heat from the bottom and not enough from the top.. Some people get better results by moving to top

Thanks... Clearly too low down... What please is a baking stone? Will any serious flat rock do?

Always had basic cookers and never this; the heat is at bottom and bottom sides.

The scones by the way were perfect else and bread I can turn over in time to stop this.
