Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said on Monday he did not know whether midfielder Paul Pogba would return for Tuesday's Champions League last-16 second-leg tie against Sevilla.

Pogba has returned to training after missing Saturday's 2-1 Premier League victory over Liverpool.

Forward Anthony Martial could return at Old Trafford after missing two matches.

The first leg in Seville finished 0-0, thanks largely to a superb first-half save from United's David de Gea.

The Red Devils will be without defenders Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind, and midfielder Ander Herrera.

And Tuesday's game could come too soon for striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is regaining fitness after almost three months out with a knee injury.

Midfielder Michael Carrick will hope to be included after confirming on Monday that he will retire at the end of the season.

Sevilla will be without defender Sebastien Corchia, while Daniel Carrico is also a doubt.

Former Manchester City winger Jesus Navas is unlikely to make the squad as he recovers from injury.

The Spanish side had the better of the first leg, but a combination of De Gea's saves and poor finishing left them frustrated.

United, who were playing their first Champions League knockout game in four years, have won 15 of their 18 home games so far this season.

"I think it is a very difficult match," said Mourinho. "We are going to try to prove that we are better [than the first leg]."

Can Sevilla spoil Saturday's party? You would think not given Mourinho's record, but Sevilla have a European pedigree of their own and should be absent of any pressure tonight. It could develop into a very interesting tie if Utd don't get a goal in the first 20 mins or so.

Utd should have enough to get through this tie but it should be a fascinating game.

With Sevilla, it could be 5-0 or 3-3. They're certainly not a side to depend on when in front, so United will not be out of it at any time. Being conservative probably keeps them in the game longer too though...

Thank you for referring to Manchester Unted as "Utd" and not "Man U" LuckyLloyd

This will be tough for Man Utd. I think they'll scrape through.

utd should roll Sevilla over easily.

    3-1

  • Excited and nervous, that's what the CL knockouts are all about. Missed the feeling!

Hopefully we can get the win.

Sevilla have to start Ben Yedder but their manager appears to be a bit of an idiot about him.

    and sure enough

Man Utd XI: De Gea, Valencia, Bailly, Smalling, Young; Matic, Fellaini, Lingard, Alexis, Rashford, Lukaku.

Sevilla XI: Rico, Mercado, Kjaer, Lenglet, Escudero, N’Zonzi, Banega, Correa, Vázquez, Sarabia, Muriel.

Confident of a United win but might be a scare along the way like Celta Vigo last season.

Need a big, bullying performance from Lukaku and I think there will be.

    N'Zonzi so good.

Another poor performance so far. Showing Sevilla way too much respect and they are very comfortable in possession.

Seville with nice build up play but little in the area.

Strange atmosphere at that match. If Sevilla's passing was a bit better, they might have created more chances than they have already. Their passing has been very poor so far.

The only way Sevilla are going to score is through a United mistake. They don't have enough creativity to really open United open and they're snatching at half-chances.

Sevilla's shots from long range are a waste. Lack of composure when they get to the edge of the box.

Ben Yedder is excellent, I don't understand why he didn't play in the first leg and didn't start tonight.

United started well but Sevilla getting more possession but not really doing much with it. Can only see a United win but Sevilla could make it very difficult with a goal.

    Or Ben Yedder comes on.
    United being really passive.

Seville not getting much off this ref.

Think it's only a matter of time before United get their goal. Sevilla are very wasteful when getting forward.

    Fellaini's playing like a striker.

Indeed, it's weird that he is basically persona non Grata. far more incisive than any other forward.

    HT 0-0

Bit of a phony war at the minute. Game hasn't quite sparked into life. Only a matter of time before it happens as the tension grows.

N'Zonzi was the standout player for me. Bossed it in midfield. Lenglet has impressed in defence too. Sevilla's attack is pretty toothless and they're resorting to extremely ambitious shots from long range which De Gea will be quite happy to see. United need to get better service into Lukaku. Been disappointed with Lingard and Rashford, the latter doesn't look comfortable on the right. Subs will be important. Might be a game where a bit of Mata magic wins it.

Sevilla to improve in 2nd half. Score draw?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

Can't see Sevilla scoring at all the way they're playing. 1-0 United with Fellaini scoring.

Away goal would mean Seville winning

It still puzzles me how N’zonzi hasn’t been snapped up by a big team

I think it's safe to say that this year's champions aren't playing tonight.

The difference in quality on show between these teams and some of the football we saw last week is there for all to see.

United would definitely be in trouble if Sevilla had a decent striker over the two legs. Muriel has been comically bad.

ddnt see any of the first half any chances in the game?

Fellaini with the best one. Smashed it at the goalkeeper from a tight angle, easy enough save.

Second half has been been a lot better, both teams getting chances.

I'd have Matic off before Fellaini. Think he's probably been United's best player.

Liverpool could do a lot worse than look at N'zonzi

He’s only coming back from injury, he’s been good but starting to tire
