It was working yesterday morning, yesterday afternoon when I put it into my computer, it says format disk or cancel. The drive shows up in my computer and disk management but it shows no files or folders. There's important stuff on there. I tried recovery software but it order to recover the stuff on it I have to buy. Is there any recovery software out there that when u click on recover, you don't have to buy? Any help would b greatful

Just restore from backups - of course you have been backing up to the cloud right? If drive can't even be mounted then you will likely need to bring it to specialist.

Less of the patronizing might be helpful, obviously he is requesting how to recover the files from the HDD then he doesn't have a backup.

I believe Recuva and Photorec/Testdisk(not just for photos) are both free

If you have to ask such questions you shouldnt be attempting to recover yourself. Get assistance.
