Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

My Redmi Note 5 32GB Global has only 21.7GB :( - I know OS has to take up space but 10GB thats quite bloated ! - looks like I shall have to root soon to take off some stuff.

But do you really need to store > 21.7GB?
What about an SD card? Or are you using 2 Sims?

Has anyone had an issue with yellow marks? I have a yellow mark, very visible on a white screen over by the volume keys almost as long as the keys. If you did how were three on repair/returns.

I searched the thread for yellow but only found DHL mentioned.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,015 ✭✭✭biebiebie

I don't have that yellow colour showing on mine.
Did you damage it by dropping by any chance?

Is it like this? It looks like glue between lcd and touch is coming off or damaged by heat See link below

Yes thats exactly it but on the other side, it's getting worse too.

The comments and story don't hold out hope.

If you bought it from 3 I would drop into your local store looks like it's a known defect

Would this be better value than the redmi note 7

Was looking at the Note 7 & Mi 9 SE but this is hard beat at the pricepoint.

That's excellent value for the Xiaomi Note 5 (posting from mine!)
Afaik the note 7 pro isn't officially being sold outside of India / China?

Yes, according to article on Android Authority, we won't be getting the Pro version.
Did you get a good case for Note 5?
Saw a 360 case mentioned earlier in this thread from aliexpress.

I bought my cases from GearBest. Cheap as chips yet still great quality. You'll find the 360 case there too.

I'm using a slim carbon fibre one currently which is my favourite. Barely even notice it, but somewhat less protection. I've had my phone just over a year now so I find I get less overprotective with my phones as they get older ;)

I'd quite like one of these vertical flip cases this time for my Redmi Note 5 Pro .... but of course I want to go further and have it with a 'window' on the front so I can see any messages through the window

    478220.jpg

    - but I cannot find one with a window in vertical flip case .. I can find plenty in the side flip case variety with a window...

Getting a working GCam Mod for your rom and Android version, will require testing a few of them and seeing which has the most features (or your required) working.

See this post, almost a year old now, but links should have been updated.

Posted here and in several other forums seeking advice on loss of audio in calls and video without success. Formatted phone to no avail and it was only the expectation that I'd never see it again that stopped me returning it to eglobal.
Anyhoo, discovered the solution by accident- turn off Bluetooth!!
    Hope this helps someone!

    Is that Android 9 Pie?

(I'm on MiUi.eu Pie Beta. Think I'll change back to stable)

Redmi Note 5 Starts Receiving MIUI 10.3.1 Stable Update with Android 9 Pie (China ROM)

    Available already on MIUI.eu

I'm going to remove Beta Pie and install stable pie tonight.
Full wipe here we come; fingers crossed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,015 ✭✭✭biebiebie

Running latest stable pie android 9 now.
    All good so far.
    Google camera working great still.

Too early to assess battery life yet (and I can be a heavy user anyhow!)

so thats just China version ROM is it? - there doesnt seem to be any android 9 Pie OTA at the moment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,015 ✭✭✭biebiebie

Correct its the China ROM which usually gets released first.
But the fact that it's the stable release means that the global OTA isn't too far off.

I'm on my first full charge.
1 day 5 hours and battery is at 37%
3 hours 35 mins screen on time.
With the battery saver switched on.
That's unusual for me as I'm usually running down the battery playing PUBG!

Updated to 9 pie now on mine. Cannot see any difference . can see though when you plug it in USB to charge it has a weird graphic now on screen and much preferred the graphic when it was on 8 where it said 'fast charging' and said how long to charge.

Tap on the new charging animation. That should bring up the old charging screen with the fast charge wording etc. Tap on that and you get the battery stats.
    Hth.

ah right , thanks for that. i shall try that tonight when I put it on charge.

Anyone else noticed anything else significant ? - I cant see anything.
Maybe its because it runs on the MIUI system and is not stock 9 PIE ?

The RN5 doesn't have the specs required to run it, so doubt anyone has.
OS: Recommended Android 8.0 or higher, 64 bit
RAM: 3GB or higher (Recommended 4 GB)
    GPU: Adreno 530 or higher, Mali-G71 MP20, Mali-G72 MP12 or higher

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,015 ✭✭✭biebiebie

Don't think it will work for this phone by default.
I signed up back in the day and to-date the phone isn't supported as far as I know.
(There might be some workarounds to circumnavigate this, but I could be bothered).

It does however play PUBG nicely (although the young fella probably just wants FN).

Nope - hasnt even got NFC (well mine hasnt) - I dont know if NFC or Wireless Charging goes hand in hand or connected in any way , but just letting you know the redmi note 5 has no NFC like most of the other androids on the market now these days

Just ordered one from Argos. Would a 5 pro case fit this one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,015 ✭✭✭biebiebie

Definitely not, as it has a metal back.
Wireless charging requires a glass back and then also the wireless tech inside to enable it.

yeah, i never thought of that but correct it has to have glass back - has the note 5 got a metal back though? because my 32/3gb feels like its got a plastic back - not metal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,015 ✭✭✭biebiebie

Note the model sold by Argos is the note 5 plus, and not the note 5 pro.
    You can Google the difference.
    Plus v Pro
    Snapdragon 625 v 636
    3GB ram v 4GB
    Camera could be different.
In general the Pro is somewhat better than the Plus.
