Has anyone bit the bullet on this yet?

These guys have the 4+64gb black global ver. listed if anyone has ever used the website?

    https://www.eudirect.shop/product/xiaomi-redmi-note-5/

The link says redmi 5 but it looks to be the 5 pro to me. They have front camera listed as 5mp though???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,133 ✭✭✭✭GBX

I havent used them before. But they are pricey! €272 inc delivery. I'd be wary of shops saying they have stock at the minute - thats just me. If you are not in a hurry, i'd wait it out a bit. I reckon the price will drop and it will be available in the likes of Honorbuy / Hongkong Goldway.

Just received an email notification from Gearbest that my Pre-Order for the RN5 has been cancelled due to supplier issue.
Oh well, off to find the Kid a different handset as I am under time pressure on this one.

    Dear Valued Customer

Thank you for your recent order at Gearbest.com.

Unfortunately, we regret to inform you that due to an issue with the suppliers, we can not ship your order out as items are unavailable now. We are taking measures to ensure that this issue does not happen again.

    So I just went back to Gearbest and whilst my order is cancelled they have jacked up their price by @10%;

Hopefully it doesn't have an effect on the China/Global Variations.
I was hoping for prices to stabilize and possibly drop, not rise.

There was a price increase so I would imagine others will put their prices up also.
Not ideal them cancelling it especially if you are waiting on this phone. Cancelling a preorder is bad form but I guess that's how GB do business.

Im holding off ordering for a bit as I don't trust anybody showing "in stock" just yet.

Xiaomi phones to be sold in Three stores in UK, Italy, and other European markets

The Beijing-based firm today announced that it has partnered with CK Hutchinson to bring Xiaomi products to Three Group Europe stores in Austria, Denmark, Italy, Ireland, Sweden, and the U.K.

The question is will the devices be locked to the Three Network, if you decide to purchase through that method!

Note on the page for 4/64gb: -

    Good News:

Redmi Note 5 64GB Global Version with Original EU Charger.
Real In Stock Now. Fast Shipping

They probably haven't updated the shipping Information since place holder listings.

Also the price has dropped from

    4/64gb - Standard with case - €215.87 + €21.59 DHL shipping.

    to

    4/64gb - Standard with case - €203.32 + €22.03 DHL shipping.

    3/32gb - Standard with case - is also down to € 177.91 + €22.03 DHL shipping, from €186.81 + €21.59 DHL shipping.

Someone should fire off a message to the seller before ordering to clarify shipping times.

Xiaomi have partnered with Three to launch their devices throughout Europe

    Ireland is specifically mentioned

Hope that doesn't drive up the prices!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,808 ✭✭✭rizzee

Of course it will drive up the prices...They can't keep prices the same as Asian websites then Samsung/iPhone sales will go down in Ireland. I'd expect a 100 euro premium added on (a Mi A1 would be 250, for example - i know the A2 will be around then, possibly even the A3 if it's next year). That's my opinion on it.

What's to stop people buying Global versions online for cheaper anyway?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

Ya, knowing Three, they will add their own premium to the cost. And likely have the handsets locked down to their network as well

I suppose one plus is, guaranteed Band 20 support for the handsets, removing that question from the equation

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,808 ✭✭✭rizzee

You're right. Less time waiting around for the global device online. But still... i'd wait the few weeks or so if saving €€... at least you can check out what the phones are like in the shop then anyway!

I'm an absolute disaster when it comes to gadgets though. If i had it in my hands, there and then, i'd get too excited and buy the damn thing there and then!

Do three Ireland still sell sim locked phones?

    Three UK don't do it since 2014! : - http://www.three.co.uk/hub/what-is-an-unlocked-phone/

I asked the same question in the main Chinese Android Thread.

To make sure of Band 20 when ordering you just have to check the specs. Must online stores have clearly marked there devices as Global Variation.
(Not to be mistaken with Global Rom flashed on a Chinese version.)

May the 4th be with you!

Any decent cases for these types of phones? Have always spent the money on quality cases for my iphones such as Lifeproof, Otterbox and the usual suspects. Any similar products for these android products. Want it to be drop proof. Going to make the switch as I could really use the dual sim functionality.

looks like the camera is a good improvement over the Note 4. and the snapdragon 636 is all most people would conceivably need.

guy here saying that it's up to S7 level in good light. (not low-light though)
low-light is still not going to be great but that's the way - only the real flagships from Samsung, Apple, LG and Huawei do well in low-light with their better sensors and high-investment in the camera software side and where CPU power does make a difference for video.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muGQvPg_kgE&t=463s

no NFC starting to become a bit of a bugbear though as it gets more useful to have it.

According to a couple of posters on the Xiaomi Reddit thread Hongkong Goldway are shipping the phone this week. They have it at between €208-€234 (depending on colour) including duty free DHL shipping

New pre-orders are up on Honorbuy! With a price increase!
    Note:

-Pre order & Get Free Gift: 1 x Tempered film

    4gb Now €212.49 + shipping. (was €207.49)
    3gb Now €186.99 + shipping. (was €182.59)

I wonder does the KIMOVIL code for €5 off still work as posted in thread.

    On another note: -

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 6GB+64GB Variant Discounted After Mi 6X Launch!
However, this is some interesting news as it indicates that we may soon see the Redmi Note 5 being offered for way less. Even the 4GB RAM version had its price slashed slightly and is now up for 1,259 yuan instead of 1,399 yuan. (~221). Already, the price tag for the 4GB RAM version on GearBest is pretty affordable at $229 while the 3GB RAM version is offered for $199. We hope to see the price come down some more as it is too close to the pricing of the Snapdagon 660-powered Mi 6X.

Prices might also drop for the global version, so wondering if it is worthwhile to wait?

Looking at the spec differences. The MicroSD card slot is a big draw for me on the Redmi 5. Think I'll hold off on that.

Is that the device your referring to? Seems to use the same SDCard in sim slot as the note. Did you mean Redmi 6?

Sorry - Redmi Note 5 Pro. Yeah losing a sim slot is not an issue for me. But the ability to have removable storage is a plus.

    That is certainly prompt service!

Also see they stop offering the free gift on the 3/32gb version.
Also estimated delivery times are different on the storage/ram versions, because they have 3/32gb in stock, where the 4/64gb is pre-order.

The store has been getting favorable mentions and feedback on the main Chinese devices thread. That is why I decided to mention them in the op and also place an order myself. Trustpilot has some bad reviews, but that is because people with a bad experience are more vocal than positive feedback.

The specs on the order page " Original Xiaomi EU Charger ".

The adapter that came from aliexpress with my kenzo, was a piece crap without a fuse in it.

And the china plug that came with the phone had exposed metal pins.

Never used the supplied charger with the device.

The EU plug can be used here, if you stick a match/screwdriver in the earth socket. Or get a fuse adapter like this somewhere : - http://www.freetv.ie/plug-adapter/

What is your MIUI Version (Settings - About Phone) report the full string.

    Check for a vendor/reseller rom.

Have you also tested LTE Bands Supported by the device.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.master.ltecellinfo

    ^^^ Above or similar app.

It had Global Version on the box, but just to put @Stevek101 mind at ease.
