Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Tackles:

    Valencia: 1.8
    Walker: 1.5
    Bellerin: 1.6
    Trippier: 2.2

Valencia is also our main attacking outlet on the right hand side, with everything else central or left. Should his stats, offensively, not be higher than most given we set up so much to put him in space?

I used to be a big critic of Val's defensive game, but I don't worry about him a fraction as much as I used to.

But the harsh reality is that if you want "better football" from United, then you need to replace Valencia on the right flank. He gets acres of space, acres of time, and routinely does nothing with it. Its not that he's closed down or hassled off the ball. Defenders give him loads of room because no one is sacred of his offensive abilities. Which would be one thing if he had a proper right wing player beside him, but he doesn't.

Our entire right flank is a barren wasteland, and you'd see the quality of football improve drastically with either a new RW or RB, or preferably both. Teams would find it harder to defend against us if they didn't have the luxury of ignoring the left side of the field.

Another example of jose the genius so we have scored only 2 less then spurs and 6 less then arsenal.... he even able to score when he don't mean too.

38 less than city. Far from genius

I compared to the two teams you said were setup to attack more then us. Spurs are far from an attacking team.

Even still, hardly genius being close to arsenal and spurs

regardless of how the team is set up in general - Valencia is the only player positioned to offer width on the right for most of the time.

The fact he doesn't create anything from that position isn't acceptable.

According to sqwaka its 21 chances created in 30pl appearances.According to them from Sep 17 to Nov 18 (7 matches) he didn't create a single chance - playing 90mins in all those games. We need him to be doing more - same as we need whoever we throw on the left to be creating chances too - cause we don't play with traditional wingers out there.

I do wonder how chance creation is defined though - player taking an attempt from a pass/cross?

Just stick a Lukaku mask on Rashford or Martial and hope for the best tonight.

    :pac::D

Just looked at his stats for the league for this season.

30 games. 3 goals. 1 assist. 0.4 crosses per game. 0.7 key passes.

    Assists
    Walker - 6.
    Bellerin - 3.
    Trippier - 5.

    Crosses
    Walker - 0.2.
    Bellerin - 0.3.
    Trippier - 1.

    Key Passes
    Walker - 0.9.
    Bellerin - 1.
    Trippier - 1.7.

I wonder if crosses that don’t clear the first man or hit the defenders ankles are included in that

I think what makes that worse reading is that he is a converted winger, which means he should definitely be more than able to create chances, he just looks like he’s lost when he gets to the final 3rd. As you say, it’s definitely not acceptable

Since that horrible leg break he has never really seemed to have the same confidence to take someone on and beat them. He bulked up instead and seemed to focus completely on the defensive side of the game.

Fosu mensah back next season, had a good loan spell as well expect him to play a lot more

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,428 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

Valencia does have the issue of travelling into traffic. It is not like teams are stretched as he brings the ball forward. His first job remains as right back so he can't just pile forward with no consideration of what will happen if he loses possesion un a challenge.

United are awful at defending when teams get chances to break on them. The conservative right side play is likely a conscious decision.

I thought he had his best season the year after that? I might be mistaken though

The shame of five at the back against moyes.

    God that's a defensive line-up even by Mourinho standards.

It should give Shaw a lot of freedom to get up the flank though. You could as easily say it's three at the back and frame it as

    Lindelof Smalling Jones
    Valencia - Herrera - McT - Shaw
    Pogba
    Lingard - Sanchez

That team, an indicator how pissed off Jose was with Mata, Rashford and Martial the last day?

Could just as easily be a 4-3-3 with Valencia on the right of front 3 and Lindelof RB :p

I said a few years ago id love to see Shaw get a crack as LW, be interesting to see if that's where is deployed.

I could see that as a back 4 with Lindelof playing the Matic role

We really look at times like 11 fellas who never played together before with the amount of ball we waste when trying a simple pass or 1/2
