Safety Risk? Abandoned Cars in a Business Park

    Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me.

A business park in which I rent a premises in and run an online shop from. The next unit across from ours is practically a scrap yard with excess of 18 vehicles, all just left in its own unit car park space. Boards of timber with screws also left lying around. They also have approx another 15 vehicles that are left in other unit car park spaces. Its just a general mess, like any scrapyard - it is to be expected. But my argument would be that its a business park, do I have any legal standing or influence of law to state that it is not allowed in a business park?

I kindly asked the man who runs the place to clear up the boards that had screws in them. He just ignored my request. The boards are infringing onto my car park area, they rest on the dividing green between the 2 business car parks.

Frustrating because I run a retail shop and its not very cosmetically welcome. Is their anything I can do?

Talk to the owner / find out who he is insured with and inform them of situation?

I've seen threads discussing the topic in the Motors forum. They might help you. Although they usually relate to cars with owner unknown.
AFAIK if the business park is considered a public area then cars should be taxed - making it an issue of concern to Gardaí.
But if the neighbour isn't co-operating contact with the landlord seems the next port of call.

[EDIT] Council issue too possibly. Thread here.

What are they doing with the cars?

If they are destroying them, then they need a permit to waste the cars. (Note, not sure if you need one for breaking/striping of parts).

I believe the regulations regarding car breakers is indeed strict

I would discuss it with the local authority.

    1. Planning - change of use.

    2. Breaking cars - scrap yard controls should be in place.

    3. Litter - abandoned cars are litter.

A few visits from the LA might get a bit of co-operation from your neighbour - if not towards you then at least towards the LA.

Do the own or rent their unit do you know. Are all the units owned by same landlord. If so I'd be getting onto them.
