Does anyone have any recommendations for news sources on a national level? Good international news would be a bonus. Unbiased, if that's possible these days. No problem paying a sub if needs be!

I've stopped following these days for the most part, it's either crap reporting and copied/pasted from elsewhere or wildly biased.

MOD Moved to news and media as it seems to be better suited there. Please take note of the new charter.

I think most single sources are prone to bias of some kind or another. The approach I take is where I hear a headline of interest, google it and read what different sources have to say. Once you hit newspaper sites, quite a bit comes down to the bias of individual journalists, which can be good and bad.

Cheers Jonny, on the ball with this one

I know it's unlikely to get a source that's never biased and on the ball so I suppose I'm looking for the best of the bunch

Difficult one to answer, as all sources have an element of bias, I'm an audio visual person myself, so that doesn't suit many

Irish Times would probably be the closest but there are plenty of people who are going to consider it biased. Its also slightly Dublin-centric but all the national papers are - except the Examiner, which puts Cork local news on the cover.

I'd agree to a large extent, but some of the regular contributors such as Breda O'Brian I'd take with a very large pinch of salt. The good thing is that having the authors name over an article lets you qualify the content based on how you feel about that author. I'm always wary of content that doesn't give the author.

not for breaking news, but news analysis - I'd vote for The Economist

Much I find O'Brien's content objectionable, they do still carry it despite it being obviously contrary to the general viewpoint of the paper. The trust ownership is something I find beneficial to not swaying to an owners viewpoint.

I would consider the SBP is relatively unbiased - it has an obvious left-wing slant in its op/ed pieces which is extremely odd for a business paper. I'm not going to disagree with that but I can easily see others claiming bias due to it.

Why not? It does what a news source should; report the news and it isn't laced with nonsense opinion pieces.
