    Thundering away in Wexford.

    Netweather doesn't show it.
    Lightningmaps doesn't show it.
    Blitzortung shows a few strikes.

Some recognition at least of a few strikes.

Kermit is right though. Anymore posts should be in the 'event' thread for today.
    To keep it tidy like.

Saying that, it's now gone silent again.

I am just going to close this thread, for today, and update title on the other one.

Looks like plenty of potential again in the top half of the country tomorrow.

Looks like producing fair amount of thunderstorms and hit and miss heavy rain.

Possibly more warnings on the way.

Fairly big CAPE available again and high Theta E readings. Lapse rates not as good as today but still decent enough. Some small bit of DLS in the NW earlier in the day.

A few convective showers bubbling up now in Ulster.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 11,958 Mod ✭✭✭✭Meteorite58

All the models pointing towards very heavy convective showers later in the afternoon. I wonder will the extra cloud cover prevent as much lightning activity as was experienced yesterday. Parts of the W, NW and N look like having the most potential I would think.

It's a lot cooler today, very unpleasant in the breeze only 16 Deg C at Oak Park close to me.

very cool, misty, murky morning here in west mayo, clouds have thined and its become very muggy and humid, dark clouds gathering to my east and southeast, missed all the action here yesterday, might get some thunder here later,i hope so,iv been waiting patiently the last 10 days for it,this could be the last chance for a while...

this has been a cracking spell of weather, the heat, the humidity for may has been noteworthy along with two rounds of continental style thunderstorms and its only the begining of june, that coupled with the blizzard/freeze and hurricane.

Can't see much happening here, too much low cloud to allow much convective lift of this stagnant, humid air mass (current Td = 17c) to get going. Hilly areas nearer the west coast might fair better.

Interesting looking clouds starting to form Galway direction. (taken from east Galway looking city direction) gotten much hotter in the last hour with decent sun now. Here's hoping

Plenty of rain and just a few sferics showing up as yet. Big shower now here near Tralee thankfully, hope it clears the heavy air.

Lightning very scarce so far today.
Still cloudy here with only the odd bit of blue sky now and again, bit of a breeze compared to yesterday.
Plenty lightning in Scotland and over parts of Europe again

Can hear quite a few rumbles here in S E Sligo, not sure what direction coming from though. Could do with a good downpour for the garden.

The Western side of the country getting scattered heavy showers over the next few days, some lightning risk at times also.

Passage of a trough tomorrow, warm temperatures, decent CAPE, decent Theta E, weak areas of convergence possibly producing the most thunderstorms in the W, NW, N. Something like yesterday perhaps later in the afternoon.

Isolated heavy showers with the potential for some lightning across parts of western Britain, but more especially into Ireland...

    Ireland...

Isolated to scattered airmass thunderstorms are possible by mid-to-late afternoon across central Ireland on Monday. CAPE values in excess of 1,000 J/kg combined with moist profiles (PWAT >32mm) will lead to the potential for slow-moving thunderstorms capable of producing some localised flooding and very locally some hail to around 1cm in diameter. Weak shear will limit updraft life-spans so showers will tend to pulse, and die away quite quickly, especially after daytime heating subsides.

Western Britain (mainly Cornwall, SW Scotland)...

Isolated showers and perhaps an odd thunderstorm are possible in these areas, with the aforementioned Cornwall and SW Scotland being the favoured areas for sharper shower development. Compared with Ireland, mid-level profiles are drier in Britain and instability is weaker (more similar to Sunday). CAPE values of 300-600 J/kg will be more typical and any shower development will likely need to be aided by orographic effects/convergence boundaries. Like in Ireland shear remains weak, so any shower updrafts will likely be short-lived, limiting the potential for lightning.
