Hah...buy the Seiko and he'll throw in the Patek Phillippe.

    Can't say fairer than that.

Some of the clones can be expensive? I think I seen a guy on YouTube saying he paid 1k for one? Might have dreamed it.

Yep, some are actually really well made watches in their own right.

A Rolex fake site was linked a while back on here, the reps were around 1000 dollars, you could even buy a box and papers seperately for about 100 dollars.

One guy had a omega Aqua Terra on YouTube and it looked scary real.. I mean I don't know if I'd get any satisfaction knowing I'd a replica on my wrist... I'd hate to think I'd bought a genuine watch for it to turn out to be a super clone...

Hardly an appreciation, if i was in the market for a second hand high end watch id be glad to know what was out their in amongst the genuine models.
It would certinaly make you more cautious.

Is that reflection or is that the gold plate wearing off on some of the links?

From what I know the best Daytona clones are noob ones, they have the chrono working perfectly. But after a quick check, they don't make the "rainbow" one. The most expensive rainbow Daytona is €310. A noob Daytona would cost you €650.
So this guy is definitely taking the píss in more ways than one. A horrendous watch (even gen, but each to their own), calling it a "clone" and charging more than a brand new, probably better quality one would cost. And the chrono will be shíte too.

I've said similar over on the Ginault thread.

The levels that fakers are reaching, particularly with SS watches is frightening.
Even niche brands like Sinn and UBoat are being knocked out in near perfect external matches.

audemars piguet, Hublot and a few others are being knocked out in near perfect copies as are Tudor, IWC and others.

Spending money on a person 2 person sale of a watch these days is rapidly becoming a gamble.
It's a gamble that has seen smarter folk than me caught short too.

Hi, I want to buy a watch, my first one I've ever spent more than probably 35 euro on! I saw some minimalist ones I liked the look of, Daniel Wellington, but did a search on boards and saw a thread saying they're only a fashion watch, and that something like Tissot or Orient would be better. Budget about 200-250.

I saw these on Amazon and I'm wondering if they are legit, because they're a fair bit cheaper than I would have thought, like nearly 50% cheaper than I would have thought, any input appreciated, thanks :)

They're definitely legit, Orient are owned by Seiko. Nice watches, if you want something automatic with that price range, Orient, Seiko and Vostok would be the 3 brands I'd be focusing on.

    Thanks for that.

Those watches are, luckily, only ~half my max budget I stated, which is ~250.

That's assuming I don't get hit with having to pay VAT and the An Post handling fee for buying from outside EU, though the listings say they include an 'import fees deposit' - anyone ordered something like this and have to pay extra to Revenue? Also thinking of using Addresspal (UK address) as they don't deliver to Ireland, not sure if that is better or worse with regards any extra fees that may be due...?

Also, bearing in mind I know nothing about watches, would I be better off spending more (more towards upper end of Budget) in order to get a better product? As in, would say an extra 100 euro give a watch that is 5x better than one of the Orient's, for example? Saw a Tissot watch that is ~250 (assuming no extra money due to Revenue) and wondering if that is a significantly better watch than the Orients...? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tissot-Classic-Quartz-Analogue-T0334102601100/dp/B001KPF3PQ/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

If you buy from Amazon uk you won't have revenue charges..they apply Irish vat, assuming you are in Ireland?

Budget is one thing but also consider what type of watch you want. Dress watch, diver style, chronograph, rugged etc.. where and what will you wear it most at? Will you wear every day? If not an automatic can get annoying as you need to set correct time before wearing depending on it's power reserve and how long you leave off. At 500 you'd get a very decent Seiko. You'd also get into something like a steinhart automatic. Some look down at the brand as they make watches based on class rolex designs etc..the quality is excellent though with good movements, sapphire Crystal etc.. sapphire does add a touch of class to a watch so worth going for.. if you want a grab and go watch, something like a gshock all metal Casio is great.. solar powered and sets the time itself.. it's a slippery slope to be honest.. you buy a 500 euro watch then you see a 800 watch then a 2k watch etc etc :)

Do not buy an orient Bambino....I had one, the movement feels like there are rocks in it, its keeps rubbish time and the dome on the crystal is comical in real life. Strap is pure rubbish....I dont have experiance of other orient watches, but IMHO they are not nice watches and fall squarely into the category of disposable "cheap enough you dont care they are crap" but then when you add up your cheap watches you could have gotten something half decent like a better seiko, a stienhart, longines etc.

Yea Daniel Wellington are absolute crap. Chinese made garbage, that I was very close to purchasing recently myself until I did a small bit of research into them. I was also looking for that minimalistic look with a similar budget to you.

I eventually went for a Tissot everytime watch for around the 200 euro mark depending on where you purchase. Its a similar style as a Daniel Wellington watch but is a very well made Swiss made watch. I have attached photos of it. See what you think.

DW watch is almost a copy of a Nomos. The cheap knockoff reps use the same case for both of them, only difference is the dial and the second hand missing. And I know what you're thinking. "Why the hell would anyone buy a fake Daniel Wellington? Just buy the fake Nomos!" But bare in mind you can get a fake casio f91w's

Thats cools, horses for courses. I really didnt like mine and it took me a good while to sell. I would go for a seiko presage or a cocktail time if I had my time over. With the bambino I also found the optical distortion at the edges with the dome was comical.
