    Hey

I bought this: AUKEY 4 Ports PCI-E To USB 3.0 Expansion Card PCI Controller

As you can see from the Screen shot there is molex power adapter on this.

I can see from the device manager that the 3.0 device is available.

The question is do I need to power this USB 3.0 Device?
IE do I need to power it from my power supply?

I would say you'd need to attach the molex to supply enough power to be able to run all 4 ports together at full power capacity. I don't know if it will even work at all without the molex attached....

Thats kind of what I though

IE it will work.... but not at capacity

is the PCI bus able to supply power? Or does it only do data?

If say the op were to plug in 4 thirsty USB devices without the molex attached and it worked, would the be a possibility of damaging the motherboard due to drawing too much power?

Lol, the Amazon listing has Molex as Sata Power. Good job Aukey.
The limitations are imposed by the PCI-E standard. 25w for x1 or x4 cards, 25w for half height cards

    5v 1.5A = 7.5W
    7.5 x 4 = 30W
    30W > 25W Ooooh.

Basically that's supplementary power to stop your mobo freaking out if you connect 4 smartphones to charge. If you connect 4 keyboards it will likely function fine.

So connect the power to it?

No reason not to, unless you're really really OCD about cable management.
