I would ditch the i7-8700 in favor of an i5-8400. Put the extra money into maybe stretching for a GTX1070 now that prices are dropping, it's massively more powerful than a GTX1060 whereas in games on a normal 60hz monitor, there'll be zilch difference between an i5-8400 and i7-8700.

Arguably even an i3-8100 + GTX1070 is a way better setup for games and costs the same (now that the i3's are true quad cores and have fairly high clock speeds too).

Ryzen 1600 is also an option if you like with a B350M motherboard and would be a similar price to the i5-8400 + B360.

Hey Andy, I appreciate you putting those builds together, however the links seems to be dead or at least they are restricted to you, I get a 404 error when I open them.
    Can you post it publically?
I'm very interested to see how you managed to squeeze a 1070 into the build :)

We have taken some of your suggestions and come up with this build.

Have I made a big mistakes?
(I had to post build in next post, I screwed up the formatting)

I've dropped the PSU since he has a few year old Corsair GS700, this should be plenty to run this build.

    Hi Fluffy,
Would your friend consider an i5 over an i7,
i5's are 6 cores now and more than plenty for gaming,
For example you can see these two CPU's being put head to head here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFh_D0Ju6UM,

The extra 100gbp could be put towards the GPU which would make more of a difference,

The motherboard you listed only supports up to 2666mhz ram but the link you have for ram is a great deal and cheaper than 2666mhz ram anywhere else,

    https://www.scan.co.uk/savedbasket/0a8e719a-02a9-4d94-b243-ba9fce4cc9bc - £742.55 shipped
    https://www.ebuyer.com/743007 - £149.98 free shipping
    Total :£893

The 2 assumptions I have made that are pushing towards the i7 are,
    1. Longevity, his current system is 8 years old so for that reason I wanted a CPU that would last longer.
    2. He'll only be gaming at 1080p for the moment so I don't imagine that will stress a 1070.
If my assumptions aren't accurate then I'll see what he thinks about the i5.
Doing all this shopping has got me excited to upgrade my own machine, I'm looking at the i5 8400 for myself

RE the RAM, yeah I saw a review saying the non-Z boards are limited to 2666mhz but you can't beat a good deal :)
