We're slightly better than a 1% chance of winning the CL now :D

    CL-Prediction1523466447.jpg

Haha I admit I remembered my post today, but felt it might still a little early to bask in its retrospective glory!

I don't think I'm a particularly optimistic pool fan, but I felt even at the start of the season that we have the players, style, mentality and coach to go far.

So I'm slightly pleasantly surprised but not shocked we'ce got this far. Nothing to stop us winning it now.

I don't even mind who we get in the semis.

There's a strong argument that it's better to get Madrid in the semis rather than a possible final so that the Anfield factor can play a part. Madrid don't have the same advantage at home. Their fans are very fickle and there may be some doubt with the way Juve turned them over tonight

After watching the Real game there, the best thing about Liverpool being an English based team, is that they can't have English referees in the European games. The penalty was probably a foul, but Oliver couldn't wait to give it.

this is definitely the best time to be an Irish man supporting an English team, if you follow Liverpool

    Little Chris Eriksen

think if Liverpool get drawn second they'll be favourites
best thing is West Brom aren't in the draw so, we have a chance

    Harry Kane is nobody's fool
Has a shot like a kick from a mule
    He's from way down South
    When he opens his mouth
He covers his teammates with drool.

Unless Kane gets involved and decides he scored a brace for them then yes, they're definitely out.

Terry and Kane are both the same
    Whether you're Christian
    Or whether you're Wayne
Both shaft their teammates the truth must be told
    One steals your missus
    The other your goal

Ryan Giggs is a terrible brother
And Harry Kane would rob your Mother
    One shags a sibling's wife

Flip a coin between the two
Sure enough, Kane will claim that too

Some penalty by Harry tonight, he must have been under alot of pressure in the build up to it also.

Gobsmacked and shamed the yids did ponder,
How one of their own - with hair a blonder,
Could claim a prize his mate deserved,
For all and sundry did sagely observe,
Ne'er a strike of the head from the slack-jawed wonder.

So who actually gets to kill Harry Kane's daughter now? Is it the FA? I know they gave him the goal but that has shades of the Shearer ban/FA favours all over it. They know he never touched it. Either way, harsh on the poor girl

Ramos to miss first leg of semis, after being in tunnel during game he was suspended for - according to balague. Some relief if we do draw them. Definitely vulnerable at the back without him.
Would preferably prefer Bayern with second leg at home. If we get Roma, we will be favourites, and this team doesn't suit to being favourites. Realish being underdogs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,404 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

Juve showed how easy it was to put 3 passed them, and i don't think real would react well to the constant pressing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,872 ✭✭✭Dickerty

Madrid are mediocre, Mancity are a better team than them. Madrid are living off hype this season. The main threat is Bayern. Preferably they draw Madrid and Madrid get lucky and scrape through. If we overcome Roma (who just won their final), Madrid are there for the taking in Kiev. The chimp Marcello won't know what hit him nor will the rest of their defence, their midfield is decent but well past their peak, however if henderson plays any kind of disaster could happen!

    The chimp? Hmm...

Any any team with Ronaldo, Isco, Modric, Bale, Benzema, Kroos and Asensio in attack is not a team to take lightly...

agreed i'm worried about madrid.... very decent and experienced players... plus they know all the dark arts, all of them....time wasting, going down easy.. gathering around the ref.... and very good at it...

Hit top form at the perfect time.

Of course, but we have 3 real attacking threats, adding in Ox for the odd goal and Milner for assists. But man for man, Real are still more experienced and higher quality. But we can get goals against them, for sure...

This calendar year he's been superb. Injuries and suspension pre Christmas were definately a factor in his form.

He frustrates me sometimes giving away possession cheaply, but that's a minor issue compared to what he brings to the team.

His run for Salahs goal sums up what he brings to the team. Sheer direct pace, he knew that City line would crumble if you ran at them.

Absolutely agree, but sometimes the best players don't make the best team. (although in Real's case, they have done in the CL for the last 2 years)

Ronaldo is a fantastic player, one of the greatest ever, but we've all seen him throw his toys out of the pram when things aren't going his way.

If we get them in either teh semi, or final (I'd prefer semi as they always seem to be able to turn in on in finals), it'll be a mightily tall order, but get in at them and frustrate them, and things could start going our way.

Either way, at Semi Final stage, you should fear no one.

I'm just looking forward to the draw, don't really care who we get. We'll have to beat at least one of Real and Bayern to win the thing anyhow. In terms of the final though, a repeat of the 1984 final would be great (although I'd like a more straightforward win than penalties but would still of course take that!).

Beat Real in the semis, then Roma in the final. That'll do pig, that'll do.

They are too well versed in the dark arts are madrid

This is what would beat us IMO.

I honestly think we match up quite well against Madrid. Juve's forwards aren't lightening quick, but were pulling them apart on the counter at times last night.

i just think Real would be cynical enough and clever enough to find ways to slow play and stifle us. I can see some fake injuries. i can see lots of diving. i can see lots of petty fouls that don't get bookings. Ronaldo dived at least half a dozen times last night, and he never even got a talking to.

i'd just worry that we're not that clever.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,409 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

The more I think about it the more I don't want Roma, still no easy ties at this stage, at least we can't draw Liverpool.
