All I'm hearing all morning in work is how it's not over and how we ****ed up and how we haven't shut up gloating about how great we are, when it's literally utd fans shouting to each other across the floor about the match ..imbecilles

It's the same ones who thought Roma would be a walkover before the match.

Ignore them. They're confused. They're fúcking petrified that we're going to win the whole thing. Like, really shítting themselves.

    He can't, can he?

I think this is the last year where it's the Ronaldo and Messi show and the winner is whoever has hit the best form.

To have an heir apparent is amazing though. Win the champions league (well let's make sure to qualify for the final first) with a performance like that last night though- maybe he can win it, can he?

    God you have me thinking!

You're doing it all wrong. You always play down your chances and cover your own ass, 'City will be very tough in the 2nd leg', 'Roma will have all the momentum next week, I hope we can hold on', 'Bayern/Madrid will be decent favourites in the final'. You only become an unbearable obnoxious jerk if and when they win the thing.

Barely said a word after the city games and was still told by some dickhead in work that we were being "insufferable." Gob****es can't stand the fact they're becoming increasingly irrelevant and make things up in their head.

The reports are a belt buckle. Either way I wouldn't be surprised if the really bad head injury was caused by hitting the ground.

If we win the CL and he brings Egypt to the QF or something then I don't see why not. He's scored more than the 'other two' so far aswell.

Just realised all the chances we had tonight.

    The 5 goals.
    Mane missing two good chances.
Lovren heading against the bar when he should have scored.
    Wijnaldum sitter.

    Am I missing another?

Firmino's shot/cross across the goal in the 5th minute (I think) was inches away. Very similar to Mane's goal.

Was nothing like it. One was a tap in from a cut back, the other was a cutback/shot from zero angle.

    You gotta love Spanish commentary;

    Liver-Goal, Liver-Goal, Liver-Goal, Liver-Goal.

Also, Gini's touch at 3:04 in the above video. Absolutely superb touch. He was excellent when he came on, excellent.

He's giving every handball, even though rule clearly says it needs to be DELIBERATE !

unfortunately he let Roma away with about 3

I wonder if we'll see Bobby move into a midfield role and bring Ings/Solanke/Woodburn in during this midfield crisis.

TAA is a midfielder by trade, would be good to see him there on Saturday maybe

Right back is one of the few areas we have cover

Haven't read the full thread, but have we talked about how f*cking good Gini was last night.
It took him a few minutes to get settled into the game, but he chased everything down, broke up play, moved the ball forward, drove through their midfield with the ball...incredible to watch.

    I f*cking love Liverpool.

I hope not - Firmino makes the entire attack tick.

I'd rather play Trent Alexander-Arnold in the middle or play Ben Woodburn as a 10 floating ahead of Gini/Milner and Henderson.

Or attempt to totally overwhelm them by playing Mané on the right, Moreno wide left (with Robertson still at LB) and Firmino and Salah central.

Oxlade-Chamberlain's injury is a big blow - are Can or Lallana anywhere near fitness? I'm not familiar enough with our U23's to suggest anyone from there for the weekend game, even just for the bench.

I mentioned it last night. I thought Gini was outstanding when he came on last night.

Hes a frustrating player though. When hes good hes very good but can be far too inconsistent at times

The battle between Nainggolan and Henderson was interesting.

It's worth taking into account when considering our midfield qualities that they got the better of one of the tougher mids in the business last night.

Henderson seemed to struggle a little early on and lost him a few times but while we were dominant he was all over Nainggolan.

The three of them were very good last night.

I'm not sure that it's inconsistency, it's more a case of what he does is not normally flash so it goes unnoticed.

I have to say as amazing as the performance was the 2 away goals worry me a bit. Lightning will hardly strike twice in Rome, will it? As for the 2 away goals, I blame tiredness and not subbing the correct players. Hendo and Milner were gassed and 1 needed to be changed. Other than that I can't fault anything else. It was a magical European night in Anfield. Another one for the annals.

TAA was excellent again, Gigi was almost MOTM, Firminio was MOTM. Salah is just on the blaze of glory that's not slowing down

Very sad to hear about the Irish guy in critical condition.

Something has to be done about this rubbish coming back into football.

Police have to look at themselves too. How can this happen just outside the ground?

Also, think the lads with flares before the game should also get done, just all adds to the scumbag behaviour that we can do without.

We can't afford to take the Stoke game lightly at all, so any talk of resting players is premature really, other than a bit of rotations among senior players in defence, and maybe Ings. If we lose against Stoke at home (shouldn't, but if we change things too much and they are fighting for survival...) then Chelsea winning the rest of their games pushes us into 5th, which would be a disaster leaving all our eggs in one basket, provided we get to the final. I like multiple baskets for eggs.

Beyond threadbare in the middle now, no cover with a lot of important games coming up. It's an energy sapping game those lads play, and they will need to be managed carefully or else will get injured themselves.
    What are the options though??

It's a shame we gave them a real foothold for the away leg and in reality, keeping it at 3-0 would have been better, but what a night. Demoralise them for the most part. I'm confident of us getting a goal in Rome and seeing it out.

There were over 10 opportunities for Liverpool in the first half alone. I'm not sure whether or not the opportunity when the linesman lost his flag was offside or not so I didn't count it.

2 mins: Salah curled his shot into the keeper, his first goal was from the same area but into the top corner.

7 mins: Oxlade-Chamberlain shot straight at the keeper from about 20 yards out.

28 mins: Mane blasted two chances.

29 mins: Salah tried to curl his shot into the far side of the goal but it was straight at the keeper.

33 mins: Mane offside - goal disallowed.

34 mins: Firmino tried to bend a shot from outside the box, keeper spilt the ball.

35 mins: Salah top corner - GOAL!

37 mins: Lovren free header hit the crossbar.

39 mins: Wijnaldum shot straight at keeper.

42 mins: Lovren free header straight at keeper.

44 mins: Salah chipped the ball over the keeper - GOAL!

Yep, awful news. Hopefully he'll pull through. Believe that two Roma fans were arrested. Jonathan Northcroft was tweeting from just outside and seems to suggest that it was Liverpool fans who stopped the attack, too, not police.

Said lot's of police at the ground but "slow to react."

    Awful thing to happen.

Nainggolan is an odd player. His attitude absolutely stinks - known for skipping training, smoking, etc when directed not to - but the club essentially lets him off because of his talent.

He is playing just off Dzeko the last few weeks which is a different role to where he normally plays - slightly further up the pitch - and he seemed less effective as such.

A good part of that has to go down to our middle, though. Henderson, Milner and Wijnaldum were absolutely brilliant.

    Re: the attack.

I just don't get the logic of these types of attacks at all. Then again I ain't a violent person or ever understood football hooliganism.

But what does it achieve? Should the worst happen, these 2 young Italian men will be charged with murder and spend many years behind bars. And for what? To prove they are more macho than Brits? Even if he survives and recovers, they are getting charged with attempted murder probably.

Add to this the effect this attack will have on this victims family. He's only a few years older than me. I could imagine the damage this will do to his family. He may have young children, whose dad went to a footbakl match and might have his life changed irrecoverably.

Overshadowed what was a great game of football for the neutral fan.

It's was always going to be tough in the away leg, but everyone now knows that Liverpool at full strength have the measure of the Roma team.

Roma's spell of dominance in the first half came in the period after Oxlade-Chamberlain got injured. Liverpool played with 10 men for 4/5 minutes before Wijnaldum was ready to enter the field. He got onto the pitch for the corner from which Kolarov had his shot. Once Wijnaldum had settled into the game there was only one team in it.

Di Francesco said that his players heads went during the game and they only got them back when Salah was substituted - that will be at the back of their minds in the next game.

Just back in Ireland. Amazing game. The ground was absolutely rocking, my ears are still ringing!

A bit disappointed we let in a few at the end but if somebody said to me 5-2 before kick off I'd have laughed in their face.

Klopp has us playing incredible attacking football. Love the man.

Very sad to hear about the Irish man injured. It was such a happy atmosphere before during and after the game. The only trouble I saw was cops on horses chasing what looked like Roma fans half an hour before kick off. Hope the man recovers.

I think in countries like Italy where football literally is a matter of life and death, people will just see this as part of the game - or at least part of supporting your team.

Let's not forget the huge links between fascist groups and hooligans in Italy - as well as other European countries too. The type of crowd that go around Liverpool smashing innocent people with belts and bottles are the same that go around making fascist salutes and throwing bananas at black players in the stadiums. They're dirtbags, but because they've grown up in that environment their whole life (or at least since they were kids) that's all they've ever known.

This type of thing is normal for them, but in Italy they'd have to do much worse to get jail time than in the UK.

Henderson was in beast mode last night, ran his nuts off. All the midfield 3 played well but Hendo shaded it for me.
The front 3 were beyond words, Mane is probably the "weaker" of them and would walk into most starting 11s.
Karius and Lovren tho, I like both of them but it's tough to enjoy being 3/4/5 up knowing both of them are liable to have a few brain farts.

    Fúckin' bouncing today.

Do not underestimate what you saw last night for a second. I've already heard numerous times how shít Roma are, a mere 24 hours after so many told me not to take them lightly. fúck off. make up your mind.

the high line was suicidal, but only once the press stopped. people are forgetting that for 20 minutes, Roma actually played really well, and the tactics worked. the reality is that Firmino started finding space. Salah was holding off 2 defenders at a time. Hendo started bossing Nainggolan. and that was that. yes, Roma probably should've dropped off once they were being overrun, but I'm sorry - Liverpool adjusted, got a foothold, and battered them.

    absolutely fúcking battered them.

it amuses me how fúcking petrified some opposition fans are that we'll actually win it. they'll cling to anything. a 3 goal advantage in the semi final is ludicrous, yet you've some trying to convince us that it was almost a bad result?!?! fúck me.

you've others tell us how shít the quality of the Champions League is this year. I mean, FFS. is your team in the semis? No? Well, fúck off then.
you'll literally say anything now to try and tell yourself that Liverpool aren't really that great.

revel in this lads. it's glorious.
games that really matter at the end of April.
    games that could mean history.
games that you can tell friends and family about for years to come.

    a 6th European Cup?

    it's on.

TAA was very poor in the game in general. Lovren mistimed his jump for the goal however TAA stood looking at Dzeko after losing him instead of tracking him back and putting him under pressure while jumping.
