Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Some odds for Liverpool to win on Wed :

    1-0 & 2-0 14/1

    3-0 22/1

I don't think this will be the big challenge some people are talking about. We have a full team going over and they have conceded a lot in certain games.

So, why am I feeling so much better about this season,

We are seeing consistency from the team something we haven't had in a decade.

We are also seeing improvements in the playing squad.

We are also playing some of the best if not the best attacking in the world right now.

Just noticed something a bit weird. Leaving the Champions League run to one side for a min (and I know that's a big ask, and I don't mean to reduce the impact/importance of it), I've just felt like this season has been so much better than last season. Yes, a couple of hard results (Man U, City, Spurs) but in general definitely an improvement and we're going the right way etc. etc.

All that said, here's our League Position at the moment:

    3rd
    P W D L GF GA GD PTS
    36 20 12 4 80 37 43 72

and here it is at the end of last season:

    4th
    P W D L GF GA GD PTS
    38 22 10 6 78 42 36 76

So considering that we'll hopefully finished 3rd or 4th (probably 4th) and that we could get the same amount of points (Draw against Chelsea and win against Brighton) there's really feck all difference. At the moment we've scored 2 more goals, and let in 5 less. The 5 less isn't to be sniffed at, but it's hardly a sea change either.

So, why am I feeling so much better about this season, when the league table is probably going to be almost exactly the same? Is it *just* the Champions League Performances (once again, not that I want to reduce their importance)? Do the two draws in the last two games remove a little of the shine (we could have hit 80 points if we'd won them)? Or am I just thinking about it too much? ;)

Well loads of other fans said that we only got fourth last season because we didn't have any other distractions and we'd be found out this season.

Then up to Christmas we'd struggle to get top 4 if Couthino left.

Well we've proved that we can compete for Top 4 and have had an excellent season in the CL while losing our best player from last season.

We've looked more solid defensively since VVD came in and hopefully we can build on that next season. Maintain a similar level of forward play and I'll be looking forward to next year.

Honestly how many of you would have taken a CL Semi Final and to have Top 4 in our own hands at this time in the season.

It's been a very good season and it's great to see the progress the club is making.

    Stats are for nerds!

There are still some outstanding issues - yesterday was Liverpool's 10 draw in the PL which for a side which wants to progress in the points tally is embarrassing frankly. The squad needs just one more push. The second string is thing twine indeed when compared to City in particular.

It's context. Last year we started the season fantastically and fell away around Christmas and January.

All good points, thanks. I guess I just thought that feeling so good about this season would be reflected in the table. Of course, the CL performance is a massive bonus.

We had a relatively poor start, 13 pts from 8 games iirc. If we end up on 75 pts that'll be 62 pts from 30 games which is a very very good return to be fair.

We've played over 10 cl games too.

Fantastic stuff overall....& we've overtaken man city & spurs in the best ball playing dept too.

We had clyne & lallana out for effectively the entire season too, both were huge for us last season.

    Can't complain imo

We fell over the line last year & let Arsenal creep up on us & nearly nab 4th. Like this season we suffered from injuries then it was Mane & Firmino iirc as I remember Sturridge was needed then.
Been disappointed that our squad now seems down to the bare bones again & I'm glad the games are running out. Ings was kinda embarrassing as a replacement for Salah against Roma. Nowhere near experienced or talented enough to play a CL semi final and it showed.
That's the big fear if we need something off the bench in the next few matches it's not there.

Liverpool are slowing down towards 76 points with draws, where last season it was a slightly more tense stretch up to 76 points with narrow 1-0 wins.

861 minutes of football this season.

That’s less than 10 game's in total playing time.

Trying to get regular game time in front of the best front three in the world is pretty hard.

Milner turning into a cult hero with his performances & twitter account.

While Harry Kane is very sad about the jokes he got about his goal lol.

Bust up with Klopp and quits?.......Reported by Duncan Castles, no other source as of yet.....would be really bad news ahead of such a huge game and in general....

No excuse. Plenty of opportunities from the bench and he has failed to take them. We have had to rotate a lot this season and have had to play ox there at times even though we lack center mids. We happened played Wjini there once or twice to fill a void from the bench.

Solanke and Ings are the primary back up to the front three and I would argue that neither have taken their chances. More so Solanke.

The front three is no excuse when dom was supposed to offer depth and hasn't.

The only thing I'd believe out of Castles was if he tweeted that he is, in fact, a four-star.

With such a serious story regarding buvac I'd imagine the usuals would have swatted it down by now, as of yet no word from them so hopefully it's all a pile of BS.

Really weird one for him to make up. Might have been too late for the usuals to get a confirm/deny. Think he was also first with the Coutinho injury before

Let's wait and see, I sure hope it's BS. Reading the Klopp book right now and it's clear how important Buvac has been not just with us but throughout his career

Hopefully, if he is to move, its for a big job somewhere and Klopp and himself didn't fall out or he isn't resigning because of illness or something. I doubt it though.

They have 17 years of working together, it would have to be something fairly big for them to fall out and for Buvac to quit and we could do without that distraction a few days before the biggest game of their LFC careers. Its all very strange but I hope it doesn't effect the players.

That's a blow but i believed he was gone but knew it wasn't a bust up.

The season is over in a few weeks could be something small.

Hope all is well with Zeljko in that case, and that his relationship with Klopp is still intact. Personal reasons could be anything really.

Must be fairly serious if he felt he had to leave at this stage of the season......hope he gets sorted whatever the issue...

    Few things

It's personal reasons, noone knows why it is. I hope it is a "bust up" and nothing more. Seems a bit gutter journalist and sensationalism from Castles

And it might not be an awful thing, 17 years is a long time and sometimes a change is good

That's a weird one. I hope for him that everything is ok family wise/health wise, and I hope for LFC that it isn't some bust-up that's gonna cause problems for the club. And I hope for me that it doesn't affect the reason of the season for us!

Chances are it is as was being reported though. No way it would be publicly released as being a bust-up at this stage of the season. Hopefully it doesn't affect the team badly for the last few games anyhow, and deal with any potential replacement, etc, after the last game of the season, whether that be on May 13th or May 26th.

Man Utd and Jose mouth piece finds out Klopps friends and assistant leaves close to the end of the season nobody knows why, club says it is personal and is still assistant manager but gutter journo finds 2+2 and comes up with 5 hoping for clicks and more visits to his twitter account, as I ask a few days ago why are we giving that "journo" any kind of airing

    ******

It must be personal reason no way would they be saying he is taking time off and his position at the club will not be effected if he was really leaving,
They would leave out the last bit and then in the summer just say he won't be retuning big there was a big bust up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,799 ✭✭✭corwill

If someone in the club fed that to Maureen's Buttplug, I hope they're found and ****ed out on their ear.

It cannot be a bust-up, not when everything is going so well, and at such a crucial stage! So whatever personal matter it is, it must be major enough that he won't be on the sideline for potentially a CL final! That's not a decision a career coach would take lightly...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,746 ✭✭✭BullBlackNova

Weird, non-specific phrasing in the Guardian about Buvac...
Recently, however, the 56-year-old has cut a distant figure at Melwood and during first team matches. It is this behaviour that led to the coach stepping aside following Saturday’s goalless draw against Stoke City, rather than any specific argument with Klopp, but the timing of his exit represents a significant setback to Liverpool’s preparations for Roma.

The Liverpool manager may hope a temporary break will benefit Buvac and allow him to return recharged for next season, although he now faces the task of guiding the Anfield club towards the Champions League final and a top four finish in the Premier League without the man who has been at his side for the past 17 years.

Hopefully a break does him well. They're a good team and it would be a shame to break it up. Especially if Buvac really is the brains of the operation as has been made out in the past...

Even if there was a bust up you'd imagine they would have managed to put differences aside for the next few games.

It just feels like there is an illness involved.
