Getting building connected to a landline

    Hi,

The apartment block I live in is not connected to the Eir Network. I have had people from Eir out to set a landline/broadband up but after much back and forth, it turns out that the building is completely wired for phones but it was just not connected to the main line at the road. The apartment block beside me (almost touching my building) is wired fine. When it finally came to light what the problem was, Eir pretty much just told me its my problem and call them back when its sorted (fantastic customer service). I got onto the management company over the apartment complex about why my building isn't connected when all the others are and they told me its not their problem either.

Can anyone give me some advice as to how to go about getting connected, who to contact to do what needs to be done and a rough guideline in price?

    Hi misan9,

I'm sorry to hear about the ongoing issues you are having with your order.

If you PM me your account number or order number, name on the account, email address and date of birth I will have a look into this for you.

    Thanks

    Tracey

OP, Eir do will do SFA unless the cable is all there ready to connect. If you can't get the necessary cable run out to the road nothing will be done.

Thanks. Any idea who fits this cable? Electrician?

Often its an electrician if its within a building but it sounds like you have to get a cable put under ground. I can't give you a name of who does it but there are specialist contractors that do that work. I had to get one in to put in a cable down our lane and they ploughed  it into the verge then erected a pole that Eircom supplied.

Your best bet is to try and talk to one of the local Eir engineers or the network guys that Eir use they will know who does what and what cables need running.

There may already be ducting in place to take a cable (it can be damaged so can't always be used) but you'll just have to get all the info you can together. You need to know how to run the cable inside the building how to get it outside and where Eir will be making the connection to your cable. Its all a job the builder should have done.

Civil crew your looking for a civil contractor
    Golden pages.
If the connection from the network is in a distribution frame in your building then it's an electrician
If it's out on public roadway it's eirs problem if you have no duct to the network on public roadway you will have to hire a civil contractor to open up and put a duct out to it before eir can cable up to your building
