Hi, does anyone know of a good heat recovery specialist who can calibrate flow for each rooms balance system troubleshoot etc. We installed a Nilan Compact P last year in our new build and have had nothing but problems with it and no real support other than being told to re-read the manual. If anyone can recommend someone it would be greatly appreciated.

You'll have a better chance of replies if you state what County you are in

Am planning on using a Nilan Compact P for a project I'm working on and would appreciate if you would elaborate on the issues you're having with the system.

Hi Sleeper thanks for the suggestion but it is very specialised so any county will do, I'm based in Galway though.
Mick, the unit is probably fine if you are not relying on it for heat but as I said it is our main heat source. Issues are temperature going into bedrooms (on N side)is over 3 degrees higher that the rest of the house. Flow cannot be controlled into individual rooms. Humidity is at 30%. System goes into defrost mode far too often.System needs constant tweaking as weather changes. Couldn't recommend as a main heat source.

A heat source? Do you have no radiant heat source at all?

Also I just put one in myself, nothing specialist about it. It's a unit some ducting and physical dampeners.

Sounds like the north side rooms are over compensated for as they have no natural heat source (sun) to blame.

We have a 1kw electric radiator and two x 150 watt electric towel radiators. System definitely not balanced. I'm at the point now that I think the only way to make sure it is done right is to figure out myself how to balance the system and spend some time on it.

Did you sort out the problem with the Nilan Compact P system?
Does Nilan not provide support when problems arise?
I'm thinking of installing the same system and I'd like to make sure that support is available should something go wrong down the road.
Who services the unit and how often and is it costly?
    Any advice would be helpful.
    Thanking you in advance

Hi Maire1. I got it sorted out myself in the end. I did a lot of research and calibrated it but that still did not fix all the problems. In the end i had to pull out the ceiling in the utility room where the unit was and insulate all the duct-work there to prevent heat transfer. This has the system working well now. I would not recommend the system as you need to know what you are at with it and the support is not there. After the supplier "calibrated" the system he never spoke to me on the phone again. When he calibrated it he acknowledged that the air going into bedrooms was 3 degrees warmer but had no explanation and did not seem to care. At one stage I got a Nilan tech involved and he was no better, when I started asking him how is that I have this problem and a number of other fundamental issues I had with the system he said he was out of time and had to go, it took 3 months to get him to look at the system, albeit remotely, and he barely gave me an hour of his time.
I now know that the layout of the piping was also shockingly poor with some ducts redundant causing too little flow or too much flow in certain areas and should never have been designed in this way. regarding servicing all you need to do is clean or change the filters every few months, very easy and there is a timer to remind you. The system is actually brilliant but the support is shocking. If you can get someone good to design and calibrate it I recommend it otherwise do not buy.
