170 ewes here main flock bought 40 swaledale horneys for keeping replacements off aswell. 8 rams... any horney ewes with ram lambs will be sold with lambs at foot and any old or troublesome ewes will be sold at weaning... plan till keep all mule ewe lambs this year and the best ewe lambs from my most prolific ewes.... running flock alongside a suckler herd which is getting smaller every year as ground conditions don't suit hope till lamb 280+ next year with a new shed under way and a 6 year lease on 14 acres off decent land. Have a savage meal bill here this year hopefully can utilise grass better next year.

70 ewes with 2 rams and 15 dry hoggets as replacements.

70 ewes this year and should be lambing 90 next spring (bought 24 nice ewe lambs last autumn for breeding this year).

I like to keep the ewes in separate flocks of 30 to 40 for ease of management.

40 ewes this year, same next year (need to get system right), and 60 the following year. If we get things right, the sky’s the limit!

Ah not really. Could realistically get to 100-ish before extra housing and better handling equipment would be needed.

Bought super ewe lambs last year (mule-logies) and would definitely buy more from the same man. Great mothers and seem to live on fresh air! Crossed with Charollais ram last year but might use Suffolk this year and keep a few replacements.

Can you say what the make up of the mule-logies is Siamsa?

Can you say what the make up of the mule-logies is Siamsa?

The dam is a regular mule (west of Ireland type - don’t know any more than that) and the sire is a logie from Scotland, which is half Llyen, quarter Charollais, and quarter Texel.

Plenty maternal blood but they’re a good size at the same time.

100 ewes on 60 acres. Quite a mixed flock. Brockies, Suffolk crosses, few brown faced ones (not sure what cross they'd be? But great ewes) and quite a few kerry Hills we bred. 3 texel rams. Was 2 till November when one got really bad hoof during mating so got another to step in. Was told your better have 3 in the field then 2 anyway. If its just 2 they keep each other distracted and nothing gets done.

Happy so far and I bought another last year, lambing ewe lambs at the moment going well & hearing same from few people who bought lambs from me. Saying that lleyn ewe lambs are equally as impressive this year.

Logies got 300 ewes this and lambs have done really well especially considering hardest lambing I remember. Photo is a lleyn with logie lambs & other is mule x lamb from last summer
