I’m looking forward to going down to this. I’ve been lucky to have worked on many great courses but this project has been on of the most enjoyable

    The course condition is stunning.

The new 16th is a great par 3.

A bit daft if a green - is it a green.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,823 ✭✭✭Golfgraffix

That is the run off at the back.

That is the run off at the back.

A bit daft to be honest

You'd laugh at that in Corballis.

    3rd tee.

I have a few more nicer pics but they're too big to post here.

Routing of the course hasn't changed but the course is totally different.

Every shrub and bush has been taken out. Only trees and bark mulch left. Zero trouble (compared to the old course) off the tee. A lot of the greens have been raised up significantly with severe runoffs.

To say its a second shot course is an understatement.

The level of finish has to be seen to be believed. Drainage every 5m, pristine level tee boxes I've never seen the like of ever.

Is it better to play than the old beautiful Adare . I'll probably never find out.

    Ha, very good!

Heres the breakdown of the prices.
No sign of any cheaper way to play it for us ordinary folk yet

was just going to post the same.
I played St Andrews 2 years ago. Even they don't make caddies compulsory.

Still, €55 for an elite caddy is not bad at all.

I used to get a fiver and if I was lucky, a small bottle of Corcorans fizzy Orange ... ah good times :)

It was windy and it seemed like a tough enough challenge for them. They missed a nice few greens between them due to the run offs being severe. McGinley played some excellent golf, his approach shots were from a lot further back than the other 3 obviously, but he birdied the 7th 9th and threatened putts for birdees on 2/3 other holes where i saw him.

We didnt see all holes but both teams finished tied for 4 under, with Harrington being given his putt on the last to tie it.

Lowrys chip from the back of the 9th green was supposed to have been unbelievable, McIlroy stated after that it was the best up and down that he had seen this year.

Nice to see them on the driving range hitting shots up close. Effortless distance and accuracy.

The up and down was spectacular. Harrington was in the same place, used a putter as opposed to the lob wedge of Lowry. Putted up the slope and off the other side of the green.

Savage course, great day there. The cap we got gets us in to the Pro-Am in 2020.

How to get a round there for anything resembling a decent price now is the thing

They wouldn't let anyone in there who didn't say "their nice new fairways". :D

Fair play to JP - but is it all a bit Irish nouveau riche .I don't know what that means myself - but there is a bit of class too it instead. Place is stunning.

But anyway - they are targeting something else, it isn't real golf in my eyes. Even the fact there is little rough says it all - more like Portugal and tourist golf.

There is nothing more hilarious in Irish golf as seeing 8 people walking around in the one 4 ball. It isn't us in my eyes.

Leave them off - but I'd rather play pitch and putt than have a caddy like that.
    "yes sir" all that ****e.

I wonder will JP have to relinquish his tax exile status to play his course more :p

Stayed in the castle before - should have played it then , because can't see me going back.
