Green Party and especially Dan Boyle are anti M28. Not sure if they have supported the Steering Group though.

There was a full cross section of Cork politicians at their RPH fundraiser; Dan Boyle and Laura Bogue from the Greens, Michael Martin from FF and Buttimer from FG. Buttimer in particular has been very close to the steering group and even spoke at the fundraiser.

Lads pardon my lack of knowledge here but what is this steering group? Are they against the M28 proposal?

I think Dan Boyle is more against bigger roads as a solution to traffic rather than being specifically against the M28. In fairness he has a point. Though I can't think of a better practical way to move port traffic away from houses.

Agreed, I think we do need to turn the focus to public transport but we can't have proper public transport such as buses for the Cork to limerick road cause the road is crap, for the north side of cork city cause so much of the city roads are clogged with through traffic cause we don't have a complete ring road and well, the M28, it's just a no brainer. Population of Carrigaline is growing by the month and so is the port. It needs a proper road!

Stumbling block number 1 in the article. Between now and 2027 there is just €200m allocated for the implantation of this plan, roads aside (roads allocation covers funding for construction of the Dunkettle Interchange and M28)

There is no earmarked funding for any of the urban roads, light rail, heavy rail improvements or most of the Docklands road infrastructure.

And the €200m was specifically for BusConnects and nothing has happened on that front since it was announced c.2 years ago. The Luas and virtually everything of significance in CMATS is not funded and as such are total pipe dreams.

Is anyone surprised? One of the elected representatives for Cork spent two years in Brussels without any one complaining.

The week before Christmas was busy for An Bord Pleanala.

Consultation: 285 student bedspaces on North Main Street: http://www.pleanala.ie/casenum/306210.htm

Application: 753 residential units (531 houses/222 apartments) in Ballyvolane: http://www.pleanala.ie/casenum/306209.htm

CPO for the Glanmire Roads improvement scheme: http://www.pleanala.ie/casenum/306206.htm

    And last but not least

Consultation: 1,100 apartments on the Ford Distribution site in the Docklands: http://www.pleanala.ie/casenum/306166.htm

Applicant "Marina Quarter" may give an insight into the name of the development.

Is there any way to see the planning files for ABP online?

The North Main Street and Docklands sites are consultations, so no files.

The Ballyvolane has all files here: https://longviewshd.ie/

Marina Quarter Ltd has one shareholder - Glenveagh - so that adds up.

Mad the way it's all put through before Christmas. A huge development lodged for Cobh too, and (at a glance) well over a thousand apartments in consultation for Dublin (I know, not the thread!)

Anyone know what part of North Main St? I would guess the vacant site opposite Dunnes (maybe a few doors up)? There was a few plots there snapped up early in 2019, wasn't there?

Article on North main Street Student beds here but no specifics on the location, they seem to suggest that its 92-96 North Main Street but don't confirm. Also more good news for the street:

Separately, The Echo understands that the former Dunnes Stores retail unit on the street is in the process of being returned to use and an announcement on its use is forthcoming in the next few weeks.

Student apartments planned for North Main Street

The development company have some images of their plans for the North Main Street site on their website http://www.bmor.co.uk/north-main-street-cork

It is the former Munster Furniture site and some adjoining buildings.

This site is a real eyesore so I hope it gets off the ground soon.

North Main Street didn't even have Christmas Lights this year. If I was a retailer on the street I would be extremely frustrated at this stage.

The renders are better than I hoped. Bring it on, the street needs anything it can get.

Good news with that mention for Dunnes too. I saw someone from the council/ executive saying the kildare style village culd go there or south main street recently, I dont expect something as bold as that, but heres hoping

The render seems to include 96 North Main St (French tricolour hoardings) which was owned by the council. Was this sold on?

1,100 apartments down there with absolutely no infrastructure to support it. Sounds like a plan.

It's fine, Cork City Council is on the case: "MOAR CARS PLZ".

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,185 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

Saw this on Twitter. City Council have a very clear car first/cars only policy. They might talk about sustainable transport and pay lip service to cycling etc but deep down the transport policy of the Council is very much focused on the private car. Zero vision for anything else that doesn't involve the car.

If you take the time, the council engineers will explain it to you in language that idiots like us might understand: "what about the people who HAVE to drive"...

    Welcome to 1960.

To be fair to the City Council, they did object to the O Flynn housing development in Glanmire over 12 months ago with concerns about public transport, traffic and cycling infrastructure eventhough the County Council had no issues with such matters

Question for someone in the industry. How many big developments [like a Horgan's quay, a Penrose, a Prism, a Marina etc] can be built at one time before scarcity of labour, serious wage price inflation etc kick in? I'm assuming that these developers use many subscontractors who finish one and go onto the next. Are developers waiting for one or two big developments to close out before starting another? Is Cork construction a tight labour market right now, that even with inward migration you're still looking at a limited # of engineers, skilled workmen etc, etc.

    It's already an issue.
    It's an issue nationwide.
