North Main Street is set for an influx of students in the coming years as a large mixed-use development, which includes student apartments, has been given the green-light. Twenty-three conditions are attached to the approval from An Bord Pleanála for the 279-bed, 49-apartment, and two retail unit development.Numbers 92 and 95 North Main Street are set to be demolished and a four to seven-story building constructed. One of the conditions includes the submission of a report concerning any adjustments that may need to be made due to Covid-19 travel patterns, which would include incentives to promote sustainable methods of transport.

Plenty of City Centre office space waiting for some love at the minute

There’s 67ksqft left in Penrose Dock, but plenty available in Navigation Square, Horgan’s Quay and the Brewery Quarter.

The Port of Cork is planning to build a new road from the Jack Lynch tunnel into the Tivoli docklands to open up that area for major redevelopment when it's decommissioned as a cargo-handling terminal. Port of Cork chairman John Mullins said it is envisaged all container loading and unloading will be transferred from Tivoli by the summer or autumn of next year to Ringaskiddy, where there has been a €100m upgrade of facilities.

The Port of Cork is involved in a joint venture project to redevelop the former 114-acre IFI site at Marino Point, near Cobh with Wexford-based Lanber Holdings. It is believed a number of companies involved in oil, agri-feed, and fertilisers are anxious to locate there once it's redeveloped. There has been some speculation that gas companies located in Tivoli might transfer to Marino Point.

They've been expanding like mad for the last 12 months in Cork but similar to Apple, rarely run to the media to make announcements. I doubt they'd share a building so Navigation Square B would likely be too small.

Promising that this is from the IT as the Examiner have been shocking in their projections of tenancies over the last 2 years.

SHD consultation has commenced for 161 apartments at Redforge Road in Blackpool: http://www.pleanala.ie/casenum/308537.htm
This is quite close to the proposed Kilbarry Railway Station on the Cork Suburban Rail network. Good infill.

The objection to the Moore's Hotel redevelopment has been withdrawn.

Was full sure this was stone dead. Perhaps a cautiously positive outlook.

A prominent quayside Cork city building/site has been bought for €3.5 million by an UK/Irish group with hotels development and ownership background, but who failed to get planning approval two years ago for a 146-bed budget hotel on the city’s South Terrace. Now changed hands is the high-profile, cleared c half acre Camden Place property on Camden Quay, facing Cork’s Opera House, and 75 metres from St Patrick’s Bridge.Sources identify the buyer as John Kajani, associated with companies Carra Shore and the Seraphine Group, who own hotels in London, Dublin and Waterford. They say he may seek to develop a three-star hotel of up to 180 bedrooms there.

Type 2 dual. 2 3.5m lanes in either direction and a wire median. Grade separated junctions

Well, that’s what’s called a 2+1 road, and it was a retrofit rather than being designed that way from the outset. A better example of a true type 2 dual carriageway is the New Ross Bypass, if you’ve been over that way since it opened this time last year.

Took a walk around the new train station earlier to see the hotel progress & the new access to the Lower Road.

The footpath is still closed all the way along Hogan's Quay, zero effort made for pedestrians just a sign directing you into the train station car park.

Construction to commence on redeveloped Moore’s Hotel in Q1 2021 with completion slated for 2023.

Market reaction to the Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine has been very positive for some of the affected sectors by the pandemic and fingers crossed the positive sentiment will trickle down to the Cork construction market going forward.

I have to say that's absolutely hideous looking. But I'm not going to get too upset about it.

It'll look better in real life...................Won't it!!!

The good side is that the site is getting developed but jasus they could have done better with the design. Wonder would they consider hiring an architect to help :p

What's wrong with normal matching-up windows like the buildings in between them?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,700 ✭✭✭fonecrusher1

Jaysis not sure if that's any better tbh. The offset windows are just ugly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,268 ✭✭✭thomil

Fits the rest of the quays in Cork: Wonky, irregular, unambitious, looking as if the architect was off his head on something.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

City Council + LDA to establish office to accelerate Docklands redevelopment. Infrastructure to be funded as part of it

    https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/munster/arid-40078703.html?type=amp

This is absolutely massive news. Having organisations in sync driving this on and acting together cohesively is huge.

If the vision is reached it would literally transform the very fabric of the city.
Imagine if the other side of the river got developed as intended as well!!! Between both sides we would be looking at near on 40k people living along the banks of the Lee within walking distance of the centre. The spin off impact in terms of all types of business and transport would be immense!

Along with the pandemic, I wonder were Tower Holdings also holding off on moving on with the Prism to wait for the outcome of the election, given that all their business and financial backing is in the States. You would hope with Biden in charge from January and now with a possible vaccine the markets and everything else will be on the up with a bit of stability around. I imagine things will also bode better for them getting a tenant.
