    Hi Guys,

As recommended by abelocks on the audio forum I am coming looking for expert advice.

My Marantz NR1506 has given up the ghost and needs to be replaced - however, as the receiver will be sitting underneath the TV and fully visible my family have demanded that it take up as little area as possible (the Marantz was deemed "massive" and "something from the '80's" so any replacement will need to be smaller).

Current setup is a Tannoy powered sub (previous purchase from you guys!) and pioneer satellites (x5 average to poor quality); I'm not too bothered about adding anymore (5.1 is more than sufficient) and network capability is not needed - i have a Roku and Plex for all that.

I am not in a position to purchase just yet but looking for any recommendations for something to be on the lookout for?

    Cheers in advance

    Hi Setanta.

Sorry to hear that your NR1506 has broken down on you.

Your really only option for a slim line A/V receiver would be another Marantz. There is now the NR1508 priced at £299.00

Pretty much any other manufacturer are going to be the standard size units.
Like the Denon AVRX2400 priced at £329.00

Let me know what you think.

    Hi Kenny,

Many thanks for the quick reply - I would love the newer Marantz but not sure I will pass the style committee at home.

I was looking at the slimline Onkyo (https://www.richersounds.com/onkyo-txl50-black.html) or Pioneer (http://www.pioneer-audiovisual.eu/eu/def/products/vsx-s520) as possibles - do you have any view on quality or otherwise on these?

    Regards

    Setanta

    Hi Setanta.

The Onkyo TXL50 would be a special order ( If its not already finished/discontinued for ourselves. The TXL50 has a lot more features over the Marantz and would also sound very well. Priced currently at £499

The Pioneer VSXS520 unfortunately is not one that we stocked and is not available to us.

    Hi Kenny,

Thanks for the recommendation; it's probably a bit out of my price range at the minute but I'll keep it in mind in case I manage to convince the bank manager it's worth it!

    Cheers
