Was it not the Grange that went through? Or else I'm just forgetting the report on gui site already.

Brother was playing on old conna team so be a nice trip to mount Juliet next month

No, Carton House went through beating Grange comfortably 3.5/1.5.

Well, north area junior Cup done and dusted. Finished 2nd in qualifying to Castle dargan, then castlebar, swinford, ballinrobe, carrick on shannon, enniscrone, claremorris. I didn't play Strokeplay and had no intention of playing matchplay. Anyway, ended up playing vs enniscrone 3 down against a good young lad after 9 and wondering why!! Anyway stuck at it and made birdie on 18 to go ahead for 1st time in the match. Ended up playing in the afternoon vs carrick, 5 down after 9 really wondering why!!! Got it back to 2 down with 3 to go and won the last 3 with 3 pars to go ahead for first time again which was hugely satisfying. It came down to last match which Carrick won with birdie on 19. Disappointed but hey, that's life. Ballinrobe, the hosts, overcame claremorris in the other game. Ballinrobe is a fabulous track and I'd encourage everyone to play it, seriously good value.

Forgot to mention, we had a 12 year old playing (won't be 13 until November). His Saturday qualifying score counted and he won his match vs Enniscrone in the morning. How's that to make a fella feel old??!!!
I think Adam Challoner played for Galway Bay but he's 13 since January, miles older!!!

Grange were strong but Carton will be very hard to beat. A few ex NUIM scholars and a team of plus handicappers, other teams will have their work cut out.

Be careful with them young fellas on teams chipping, if the auld fellas get their backs up, they'll be leaving in their droves!!!

1 match difference is "comfortably"?

What were the individual scores in the matches do you know?

That's a fair point but for Junior/ Senior Cup/ Barton Shield: if you're good enough, you're good enough. In fairness, we've had a good enough mix at Junior Cup level for the last while with the panel usually made up of 3 or 4 < 20 years old, the oldest being, let's say, well over 40! Youngest last year was 14 and he's gone on to play both Senior Cup and Barton Shield this year. I always find it a breath of fresh air to play alongside the young lads: sometimes you forget that it's supposed to be a bit of crack and playing attacking golf is much more fun than defensive, conservative "playing in fear of having a bogey".

Apologies. In a tightly fought contest, Carton House barely got through, winning by 2 matches. Grange fought bravely to win 1.5 pts out of 5. Is that better?

I don't have the individual scores from the final, but I'll ask Brian when I next see him.

There's little doubt that they came through the toughest group. This is the 3rd year in a row that they've reached a Leinster final, which is some achievement.

For me, match of the day was Darragh Flynn beating the current WOI champion 4/3. Keith Egan was unbeaten over 4 matches, and won his semi final on the 11th.

Yes, Carton are stacked with talent (all home grown) and 7 of the panel played that weekend. They were very confident going in against grange, and it appears on paper that they were justified in that confidence. The talent on the panel is unreal.

Anyhow, on-wards and upwards to Kilkenny!!

well done to Athlone in PP and to Tuam in Jimmy breun.

Great to win the Connacht title for pierce Purcell. We do feel like we have a strong team and they really delivered today.

Tuam went right to the wire as well winning on the 20th in the final match.

Galway were very strong in the senior cup but almost got undone by an Athlone man in the semis when Niall Carroll almost edged out Ronan mullarney

And Athenry won the Barton shield with a very strong team.

Great golf on display all weekend by all accounts

Athlone versus nenagh in the all Ireland final of the pierce Purcell tomorrow. Athlone got through against ballyclare in a very tight encounter. The fifth match going to the 19th hole.

All conquering nenagh got through in simpler fashion winning 4&2 4&2 7&6. Be a very tough match for Athlone tomorrow

Hope yee bate nenagh. Be a very tough ask. Such a great club let down by their dodgy handicaps for the higher players. Sound bunch I normally play against from senior to junior cup

Shows its much tougher to defend your title,

Last year Nenagh showed much better form winning their first 3 semis 6&4, 7&6, 6&5 befor just getting over the line in the final with 3 5&4's

Think Thurles won it last year, Nenagh in 2016 and Thurles in 2015, so probably a fair chance Thurles will win it in 2019!
