Not sure it’s the match length but the occasion and the fact that they’re playing for the WC! Saw Ding win the TPC in Galway a few years ago when he played Robertson in the final. Robo went 3-0 up but then couldn’t pot ball that were gimmies earlier in the evening, then at 3-3 neither player played great but Ding got over the line with a good break after Robo left him in! Both players were poor at different stages of the match in a best of 7 final but the pressure still got to them even though this event is nowhere near the prestige of the worlds and the venue nowhere near as engrossing for the players. I think the standard is more to do with nerves and tension and overcoming it than the length of the matches

i was at that match, id love if they brought back a tournament like that to Ireland again or an Irish open.

Should be a few in Ireland.

    Irish Master
    Northern Irish Masters

Maybe like Irish super 8 cup.
    Players challenge
    Goffs open etc etc

Make it worthwhile for players and they will come.

Doesnt have to be Ronnie all the time.

Still think Higgins didn’t do enuff time for the ‘throwing matches’ incident that he got caught up in...plus there is just something so boring about him

Never really got why Higgins is singled out as snooker's answer to Father Stone. All modern players apart from Ronnie seem pretty dull to me...

Higgins getting heckled during a match against Williams, love Willo’s little smirk to himself at the end :D

Tickets have been going on sale a year early for the last few years.

The in person thing for today is new, and is total nonsense.

To combat touting just have everyone pick up their tickets in person, a maximum of a week before the session. The person who's name they are in has to show photo ID to get them.

'the path that you have travelled matters not, it's only the path that you're on'- Alan McManus commentary on bbc recap of afternoon session
Was he talking about positional play???
    Inspirational anyway

That's a great system. It ensures proper snooker fans are rewarded for their loyalty during the 'barren years', and there's an audience there for the love of the game. Snooker isn't darts, despite what Barry Hearn thinks.

Williams should never have gone for that red from where he was, now Higgins goes on to settle in and win this session

So here I was thinking that William's would be caught sleeping and it's the other way round. Maybe a Kebab @ 2:30 is a good idea. Anyone see him close the eyes for the last pink (frame 3)

Just to get back to the closed eyes shot today, I'm beginning to think that there is more to these shots than simple show boating. I think he is testing out his his new sighting technique which puts a lot of emphasis on the inititial approach and alignment of the shot. It's like he's testing that if he has that right, then he should be even able to pot them with his eyes closed or one handed. And when they go in, he knows he has his sighting technique correct.

Yeah, nine frames. The idea being that there then has to be someone leading overnight. Also makes a change from the usual level, two frames or four frames lead. Will be one, three or five lead going into tomorrow.

The BBC have in the last few years have been doing a lot of cringey segments. Especially for me when they ask one player to talk about another, when they have a face on them that reads 'wa da fck being asked to do this sht for?'.

They've been trying this with the Masters golf as well. Trying to do a 'Sky' on it, when the exact appeal of the BBC coverage is that they never go this way.

Yeah. What was all that about? Even Ken looked uncomfortable with it.

Yeah, I think he'll actually be quite happy with the current scoreline, he's been a bit lucky and Mark hasn't particularly.

Think this is going to be Marks ropey session. It’s now that last nights exertions will begin to tell, think he does look a bit more visibly subdued this evening. Wouldn’t panic for him yet if he’s behind, feel he will pick up again tomorrow.

Totally agree, would be amazing to have one good quality pro tournament here every year even just a crappy PTC event or a couple of rounds of the league. Just any chance to see a few top pros once a year would be smashing!

Can’t help thinking the way JV ecstatically greets every ton he’s balls deep on there being a record total

Yeah, bit of a yawn from him earlier. Good night's sleep tonight will do him good and he should be the stronger of the two tomorrow night.

Northern Ireland open just up the road in Belfast. Waterfront was a good venue last year. Selby and Ding didn't show but everyone else was there. Williams won it. Worth a trip up.
