The sprints and the scratch are going to be great. The fastest women in the country will be riding, Kelly Murphy, Mia Griffin, Lara Gillespie - it's gonna be great!
And the sprints with Eimer McMullan, Orla Walsh, Deirbhle Ivory and Nikki Taggert, it's going to be super exciting!

I also predict Kelly Murphy will break the national outdoor record in the Individual Pursuit tomorrow.

I see that Ronan McLaughlin( Everlasting record holder) and a few other went for a spin in Donegal yesterday. He did 555kms in 17 hours and 17 minutes.
He only did 6,000 metres elevation.

Wasn't there a case of a new super in Galway about 8-9 years ago, or maybe a local Judge who told all pubs and clubs that kick out time was 2am. They cracked down it for a while but realised the sh!tshow of having everyone piling out at the same time

Either way it was someone new trying to make a reputation for themselves and it kind of backfired

yeah about that, he had it out for late bars for whatever reason,

still seems unnecessarily narrow (for a two way cycle lane) given the space available. more permanent looking than the rest of the cycle lane works DCC have been undertaking recently. the kerb is a little 'organic' looking, seems to have been shaped by hand rather than by a mould.

Is it to be a two way lane?
Pretty nice off road cycle track on the other side of that stretch of road

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 49,607 CMod ✭✭✭✭magicbastarder

It had been my understanding that it would be. Perhaps in that stretch it's not because of the cycle path on the other side.

They did! I laughed when they used sprint footage to announce Kelly's record :pac:

You can watch back the live feed on the Facebook links. Some great action today, the pursuit ride offs and the sprints, great racing and some very close matches.
I'm looking forward to the scratch tomorrow- because I'm not riding it :pac:

It's weird seeing track outside and not on wood to me as a spectator, and our eldest thought the same lol when we were watching earlier.

Thing is, most of the veoldromes in the world are outdoor as can be seen in this list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cycling_tracks_and_velodromes

My favourite which no longer exists is Meadowbank in Scotland which was outdoor and timber: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meadowbank_Stadium

Hoy and McClean raced there, in fact Hoy's Stadium, was part of why it stopped being used, which is ironic, but understandable.

Small bit of useless Trivia but by some weird coincidence I am in the exact same position on the distance & elevation cycle challenges this month when filtering by country on Strava!

I normally don't check the leaderboards but as I did a lot this month I was curious, had to triple check to confirm. Now hopefully no one else uploads for the rest of the month!!!!

Global Cycling Network video on 'how to ride 100 miles: made easy'. Was nicely surprised to hear the route is in Ireland (near Carrisk-on-Suir- Clonmel- The Vee- Dungarven and back to start)

The English regard using miles as a sovereign right. Only Euro scum would use kilometres, y'know.
