Anywhere in the city to pick up basic DIY skills?

Not even sure I can say ''Handy man'' these days but anyway! Basically I want to do some DIY at home and I don't even know how to put up a few shelves or insall a light fixture. I have no actual handyman type experience. I would prefer not to put my trust in youtube videos before I start drilling holes in rented…

Dad left for cigarettes and never came back to impart these valuable skills!

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

YouTube or Mens Shed, though I've personally learned everything DIY related from YouTube and never had any issues
