Existing duct proves a problem at access point to house

    Hi all

We decided to contact EIR and make the switch for high speed fibre which has been rolled out past our house in a rural area.

A KN engineer visited to check existing layout etc. According to him WE need to dig up the existing duct that runs from the road to our house and sort a new access area that does not have a sharp right angle from ground into house so that the fibre wire has ample room in a duct to access point.

That was a few weeks ago, really just left it and stuck with existing SKY Talk/BB a/c, even though the bb speed is pitiful.  We got rid of the TV subscription in Jan as we hoped to avail of full package with EIR. Don't really miss it as invested the savings we would make switching in a smart TV that has apps including Netflix etc. And Now TV app was grand for Sports pass for Masters

Problem is the broadband speed is not sufficient for our use and because we are a family of six with two doing college exams etc it is wearing our patience down.

What I can't understand is why EIR as big as they are cannot manage a more efficient organisation and sub contracting network.  Surely when you order this product 1 An engineer does a site visit. 2 Can arrange for a contractor at a negotiated cost to dig up duct (in our case) efficiently and liase with EIR and all involved to allow customer et al to complete the mission of product delivery!

...is this real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a broadband slide no escape from reality

    Hi Countess Clutter,

I can understand your frustration here, however, we don't carry out ducting work and the onus would be on the customer to carry this out. The KN engineer would have carried out a site survey when he assessed the situation at the premises and advised on what work is required to move forward with the order.

All details for ducting work can be found here - https://www.eir.ie/.content/pdf/NewDucting.pdf and also https://www.eir.ie/.content/pdf/BlockedDucting.pdf

Once this has been completed an order can be processed for the connection to be made.

    Thanks

    Tracey
