Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've noticed more and more people in work talking about 'reaching out' to someone when they mean phoning them, talking to them, emailing them etc.

When did this cringy expression become mainstream?

It's better than people wanting to reach around you the whole time.

Only a simpleton would use 'later' when they mean 'going forward'.

Lot of people haven't even the God-damn common courtesy to give a reacharound.

Can we park the business jargon, going forward?

    That sounds actionable.

1987, when Telecom Eireann used the song Reach Out And Touch in an ad.

We need a more end-to-end solution.

I once had an email chain going in work exactly like this. It was only the inner circle of lads with a sense of humour i.e. that 3% of the office that you actually like.

It's more cromulent to say circle back, it embiggens any work environment.

    I'm only awake now.
I will reach out you and circle back with a reply in the coming days on how to proceed about this going forward.

'Thanks for reaching out but this is not for me' or something to that effect is the stock 'please fk off' response on LinkedIn.

I use it for this reason. It's clear that I didn't bother my hole coming up with a bespoke response to your copy and paste bullshi t attempt to pique my interest in your snake oil.

Other than this, the expression is the sole preserve of the tosser.

I like expressions like this because it makes tossers easier to identify in business.

Great - we will need to drill down on the finer details.

I've played ****-word bingo in a face to face meeting.

The first person to get all the phrases on their list had to work a pre-agreed phrase into the conversation and the winners were all the people who kept a straight face.

From the independent.ie website this morning...

'Independent.ie reached out for comment from Ryanair but a spokesperson said they would not be commenting on the matter.'

What is this 'reached out' nonsense? Whats wrong with 'contacted'?

When did we all start 'reaching out'?

Something needs to be done about this.

There are Outreach Programs available to help those who get upset by changes to the language.

Also now finding the younger kids using the term 'ship it' instead of 'that's a good idea'.

"Contacted" would suggest they phoned or emailed for a response. "Reached out" probably means they went through a broker in Hong Kong or something.
