It's OK Ten Pin, Thousands of people already know where I live. I don't class my Eircode as sensitive material and it will help Eir pinpoint my exact location

The school down the road from you can get 17Mb DSL - you should be able to get similar if yoiu have a line already installed (depending on the line quality)

Signed up to eir and was told I would get 150 mb . I have only 9 or 10 mb. Eir fibre is outside my gate. I have been passed from technical service to customer service to sales department . I have been escorted from a store for using bad language. I am disgusted can anyone advise on a course of action?
    welcome to inept eir

Strange your download speed would be so bad, maybe get them to double check it - maybe hope they continue the FTTH a bit further down the road to you

I don't think these Eir reps can help. I've noticed they get replaced frequently with new names. Either they quit from being bombared by customers and know they can do nothing to help except express their apologies for the inconveniences caused and ask for your account details. Or they attempt to help and get fired for doing it.

what are you talking about? Have you any evidence to back up this claim?

I said either or. Why else do the reps keep changing? I've spoken to at least 3 different ones who are no longer one of the 4 available and none of them have ever been able to help me with anything except expressing apologies and asking for account details. Where is Adam, Anna, Leanne, Tony, Kevin and maybe even others all gone in the past few months? I'd love to be proven wrong by one of them helping my current situation. Waiting replies from Thomas and or Tracey.

Becuase maybe they have moved to a different section by choice or have been redeployed, do you get the same customer service agent everytime you call into a place? Bit of a ridiculous claim to make just because the same name isnt here, the Eir forum has been here for years, doubt people want to stay in customer service for years

Have you had a good experience with any Eir reps here where they have been helpful to you? From my experience and various other disgruntled customers thread I've read, this forum is nothing more than a charade. I hope I can be proven wrong however. Waiting replies to my PM's.

I'll give you some real advice as it seems the reps don't know what to say.

There's different bands used in Ireland for 3g and 4g data.

Usually if you are in a rural area, you will be using the lower freqency bands as these extend to further distances than the shorter bands. However they don't penetrate walls well so indoors will usually have hopeless speed or you'll have to try move the modem around to find a good spot. If moving it doesn't help, don't count on those speeds ever improving.

    Been there, done that :)

I've tried all mobile data providers before, meteor/eir was the worst of the lot for my location at least. Same as you was told on their coverage map it should fine but was pretty much unusable. I found one good spot but would only work sporadically.

Just go back to the store, could be waiting forever for a response here.
You've got justification in that the speeds are not up to scratch - there isn't anything that can be done to make it faster
Did you try and get your line prequal with eir again - if the school can get those speeds you should be similar

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,852 ✭✭✭Steve F

    Thanks for your help Fritzelly
I'm thick...I have no idea what you mean by asking Eir to prequal my line.Explain like you are talking to a 12 yo...what do I have to do? Where do I call? We dropped the landline a few years ago

You would need to get the line reactivated with the precise intention of getting BB (ie tell the sales guy this), then they can prequal the line to see what speeds you can get on DSL (looks like the area has Fibre to the Cabinet but you are near the distance limit for it)
If BB is not possible then just cancel the line, the tech himself may already know when he calls out prior to installing the line if it will be worth it for the speeds.

The response time for the reps here is 14 hours. After which you will get a generic response asking you to PM your account details, then its another 14 hours to get a response to that.

Get on the phone to them. You will get the same response , and unfortunately it wont be good. You will be told that you  need to pay an early termination fee.

Been through it before with them.

Just spoke to Orla on 1901 She told me I am entitled to 14 days cooling off and can just take it back to the store and get it cancelled
Can Eir Reps confirm this is correct before I make the journey over the next few days please
    Thanks
    Steve
