    Hi Girls,
I'm jumping in now too, got bfp on Monday for baby number 5. Eldest is 4.5, have twins that are 3.5, baby of 1.5 and now this little beanie. Congrats to you all!! Anyone going to the Rotunda?? I went sp the last 3 times but am going private this time. Have my first scan next week at 6 weeks so we're really excited to see :)

Oh my god Brazzer I don’t know how you do it! Fair play to you!!

I’m going to Kilkenny. Went there the last two times and despite some complications during both births the midwives are amazing. Have every faith in them again.

Where is every one else going?

    Hi Girls,

I went to the doctors yesterday evening and told him I was pregnant, said to come back after my first early scan next week to confirm dates etc. For some mad reason when in dealz I bought a pack of their pregnancy tests and tested. First one was blank, second one came up negative straight away and then after a few minutes a second line appeared. I had myself worked up and didn't sleep last night so at about 3am I took one of my precious clear blue digitals into the bathroom and did that, pregnant came up straight away followed by 2-3 weeks, phew! I then did the last of the dealz tests this morning to see if it was maybe a bad batch? Came up with the negative line immediately and then a faint second line. On my previous pregnancies I always loved testing and seeing it confirmed, this time after seeing those cheapie tests and the results I'm kinda losing my pee'ing on a stick addiction :)

    How is everyone else feeling??

    Just looking for some advice.

I'm really undecided about cover. I have good health insurance but also have a few underlying medical conditions.

I was considering going semi private but I'm wondering if I'd be better going public as I'd possibly need a good few more bloods etc and I'd have to pay for them if I went semi private..... I hope I'm right in my understanding of that!

So any advice for me ladies?

    Hi Baby19

I went semi private on my last 3 pregnancies and also had extra scans, blood tests and never had to pay for anything once I paid my initial fee. I went to the Rotunda but a friend went to Holles St and she was billed for extra tests while in semi private care. Where are you going??

    Hi Brazzer,
Thanks a million for your reply! I'm going to Holles Street but I actually rang this morning and spoke to someone there who basically said that it would be a waste of money to go semi or private as I'd just be attending the same clinic so I've decided to go public. Hope it's the right decision!

The Rotunda semi-private doesn't ask for extra money for blood tests, extra visits, scans etc , in my experience, but I know Holles st does.In case you are in one of those.

Sorry my replies are taking so long...I'm going unreg so they need to get approved which takes a bit of time.

I'm literally all over the place now... I'm even considering changing to private in The Rotunda, just waiting to call to find out fees for my preffered consultant- Jennifer Donnelly, if anyone here knows that would be great :D

I will be classed as high risk regardless of where I go so I'm wondering if public or private would be better. With public will I end up seeing a consultant anyway? Would private be a waste of money? So many questions and it's just such a hard decision.

Whilst I don’t have any underlying medical conditions I have had issues arise during my two previous pregnancies. I went public for both and in the end the consultant was called in both times to make the big decisions. So whether you pay or not, if really needed the consultant you could be paying a couple of thousand for will be called anyway.

Yes clinic waiting times are longer but it’s generally midwife led and I think you won’t get better care than that of a midwife.

I didn’t hesitate about going public again.

I was very concerned about the public/private decision also but had decision taken out of my hands because my health insurance wasn’t sorted in time. I’m going public in Holles St. I’ve heard the standard of care in the Dublin hospitals is very similar so I made the decision based on ward sizes and the general feel I got from talking to staff there. However, I got my booking date recently and it’s not until 14 weeks and it states that there will be no scan facility so I’m paying for early private scans. There’s always that option where you can pay for some private extras if you need to.

Is anyone doing the dominos/midwife led scheme? Done it last time and would highly recommend, no fuss, appointments on time and nice to build the relationship with the midwives. I’m in Wex, they take limited number and all needs to be normal pregnancy wise to go on the scheme. Getting a scan in the EPU at nine weeks, hopefully all goes well and can do dominos again.

    Hi Baby19

I'm high risk too and went semi private until now, I was placed in the high risk clinic and they sat on a Tues afternoon and then changed to a Thurs afternoon. I had the same doctor on each visit but she didn't deliver my baby but was so so kind and very efficient. This time as I'm high risk again I decided to go with Karen Flood, I was referred on to her last time for detailed scans and also had her on my twins, she's second to none! I get what people are saying that if you go public and need to see a cons you will. If you go private you see your own cons on each and every visit. It depends what you want from your experience. I never went public so can't comment, i've done semi private on last 3 pregnancies, feel free to pm if you like

Thanks so much for the info Brazzer. I've had no luck getting through to the secretary in the private clinics today which is very frustrating as I really need to find out Dr Donnelly'so fee.

Can I just ask you, as high risk would you recommend either private or semi private? I know you were saying you hadn't gone public but just in your experience :) Also, was it the rotunda you went to?

    Hi Baby19

That's strange you couldn't get through, maybe ring through the main hospital and ask to be transferred?
High risk you will be under the care of a specific team in semi private and that 'team' is under a consultant but you won't necessarily have any of those doctors deliver or be present for the birth. I was taken very good care of 2 years ago but because I needed specialised scans I was sent to Karen Flood and that's what made me pick her this time. If I had no issues I would stick with semi private, I was never left for more than 20 minutes to see the midwives and same wait again to see the doctor. SP is €1100 and Pr is €2500. Is this your first baby? You will be in a 4 bed room up on the lily suite if SP and in a private room if private. Btw the €1100 is paid at your booking in appointment, the €2500 is paid in 3 installments if that's any help. Anything else just ask away x

Sorry yes it's the Rotunda I go to x

Awh you're an absolute star! Thank you so much for all your help! Think I'll have to give Holles Street a ring so....hopefully it won't be a big deal to change!
Will give the Rotunda another go tomorrow :)

Oh and yes first baby- hence all the confusion!

Hi all. I've taken the tests and should be due around 25th Jan. This is my third pregnancy but I miscarried my last at ten weeks so I'm a little scared to get too excited just yet. . .

Congrats to all the newcomers :)
    How's everyone feeling?
I have pretty much no symptoms now apart from tiredness and I have myself in a state worrying that somethings wrong :/
My appt with the early pregnancy unit is not til June 15th so I'm trying to stay positive til then. I'll be 8 weeks this Friday.
    Anyone here attending Waterford?

Im going to say Hi here too, I started the Feb 2019 thread yesterday but I think I will pop between the 2 threads, I doubt I will make it to feb.. second pregnancy, have a little man who will be 3 soon, very high risk pregnancy, my little man was born very prematurely (26 weeks) so hoping to get to term this time (or even past 33/34 weeks).

Hope everyone is doing ok. Heading to GP this afternoon to get the ball rolling.

I was the same, honestly we get ourselves rightly wound up, on my first pregnancy I wished I was vomiting from morning to night so I would be more at ease...

I have a bit of nausea this time, nothing too bad, my superhuman sense of smell is back.. that's actually why I tested, my cycles are irregular but when I smelt a candle from across the room I knew I was pregnant! Other than that, boobs are incredibly sore.. and I am very cross but I think that is due to a massive reduction in caffeine more than anything else!!!!

Instead of counting ourselves lucky we're actually looking for nausea lol I'm quite cranky these days too. I was blaming the heat and lack of sleep. Never thought it might be the coffee I'm missing !
How far are you now Sallysue?

My first son was born at 28weeks due to placenta previa. He's 15 now and not a bother with him thank God. The preemies are the toughest I think :)

My cycles are a bit irregular, vary between 28-31 days.. I should be 5 weeks tomorrow which would take me into Jan, but I think I am a few days behind that which would take me into feb.. so I will be between both threads..

Preemies are the toughest, hopefully it wont be a journey we have to travel again. there is no known reason for me going so early... guess we will have to wait and see what happens this time...

I miss my coffee so much.... might pick up some decaf so at least I will still have the ritual of morning coffee!

Had a bit of an eventful day today. Has some spotting all last night and still there this morning. No pain or cramping or anything else of concern so just rang hospital as a precaution so they could document it. (I’ve had the same problem on previous pregnancies) told me to come in and get checked over.

Ended up getting a scan and got to see the little bean. All is perfectly fine thankfully, measuring bang on for my dates. Whilst not the best of circumstances, it was nice to get a scan.

Hope everyone else is keeping well!

Glad to hear everything is okay there - great to get the scan
This is the hardest time I think when we are worried and I wish I could tell people!
Little bit of neausea starting here, not as bad as previous pregnancy so far ... we shall see!

Anyone else waking up way too early in the mornings? Why oh why! 😂

  • Registered Users Posts: 62 ✭✭Peppery

That’s great to get the scan for peace of mind. Have to say it’s good to hear too that things like spotting/cramping can happen without cause for alarm. Helps to keep the fears at bay! My symptoms are very much up and down. Some days I feel little and worry! The only constants are the tiredness (I have absolutely no energy) and food and smell aversions.

  • Registered Users Posts: 445 ✭✭teggers5

Glad to hear all is ok natc. Must have been so scary.
Sarabi I find I'm waking up several times during the night but when it's time to get up I'm exhausted.
My symptoms are still pretty much non existent apart from tiredness. Although I was lying on the couch the other night and the cat walked across my chest and it kinda hurt. Not sure if it was tender pregnancy boobs or just a heavy cat lol

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭Baby19

Couple of symptoms kicking in here. Exhausted and sore, ahem, chest! Especially in the evening which is odd! Busy few weeks ahead in work so hopefully I'll make it through okay! Have my first scan in a couple of weeks. I'll be 6 weeks tomorrow and I've been warned that I'll feel a big surge in symptoms from this week on!

Hope everyone else is doing okay :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 103 ✭✭sallysue2

Natc, so glad to hear everything is ok, such a scary time..

baby19, im just a few days behind you, 6 weeks somewhere between thurs and sunday (cant wait for my scan so I can actually have a date!) but my symptoms have been fairly bad for the past week or so... this is going to be TMI but had awful trips to the loo, like I just had a vindaloo! nausea and my boobs are killing me! Had vindaloo style trips to the loo on my first but never nausea... And I am exhausted!! I slept for 15 hours on Sunday night!

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭Baby19

Wow SallySue I'm the exact same- very regular trips to the bathroom but no nausea... yet... I'm kinda hoping I might get away with it!! Although I've been warned that this week will be a big week as there's a big surge of hormones etc.

Its awful isn't it baby19, I got such bad stomach cramps I thought I was miscarrying... until I had to run quickly to the loo, then the pains were gone.. thankfully.

Yea week 6 doesn't sound like fun, Im already more nauseated than I was the last time, dread to think of it getting worse, I have a strong stomach so I am never sick. I have to admit I was also one of those smug ladies the last time I was pregnant who never felt sick... coming back to bite me now!
