Such originality even if it's actually taking months lmao
Is there no one left in RTE who can actually come up with something original

I'm sure Ryan Tubridy's second cousin, who's working in the canteen, could come up with a better idea.

Oh God-don't be bringing Dr Ava back here. Didn't she bugger of to Africa or something? Did a whole show about it.

So, a few ideas RTE could do instead of this.

    -Anything else.

Probably get himself and Jake as a two for one deal.

Throw in that dancer he's dating as well-on account of them being a package.

People get angry when you put down the music of others , get dubbed elitist or snobby, however I was subjected to a Nathan Carter album on repeat in a situation I was in and can categorically state that it’s a scientific fact his music is appalling and his fans simply don’t know any better.

There's a busker playin' on the street
    Watching all the people meet
The boys and girls are back in Dublin town
There's young ones there from everywhere
From America to God knows where
It's just another night in Temple Bar
So come on down, out on the town
Cause' this is where a good time can be found
So bring along the old squeeze box, the fiddle and guitar
Let's have a good old night in Temple Bar
There's a stag do here from Liverpool
Chasing hens and on the boat
Old Barney's lashing out the 'Rare Auld Times'
Ah the Glasgow girls are on the floor
And a round of shots have just been poured
It's another crazy night in Temple Bar
So come on down, out on the town
Cause' this is where a good time can be found
So bring along the old squeeze box, the fiddle and guitar
Let's have a good old night in Temple Bar
There is no better place to be than this old town tonight
Nobody's going home till' they turn out the lights
So come on down, out on the town
Cause' this is where a good time can be found

People complaining about others peoples music....wow that’s new
Carter has a following, let them off with it.

The problem is not Carter, the problem is how pi** poor Rte is and it ain’t getting better. The late late show with no audience just proved how awful Tiubs is, even when he got a decent guest he was terrible. The problem is he is actually the best they have.

I'd sincerely doubt that. That he's 'the best they have'. If anything, Tommy Tiernan showed him up.

And I know Tiernan is a divisive figure. And I completely understand that. But Tommy actually listens to the people he's talking to-you never get that feeling with Tubridy.

And this isn't even Tiernan's main gig, it's just a side gig for him.

I was 'barred' from a jukebox once in a quiet country pub for putting on Pantera tune Cowboys from Hell.

Next day a local came in and put on ****ing Nathan Carters Wagon Wheel 9 times in a row. 9 ****ing times.

There's **** all justice in this world.

Have to say I would have called it VE-Day, or that's what I generally know V-day as, have to say V-Day re: Covid is kind of insulting to VE-Day. In general a ****e name for a show that will no doubt fawn over the last 1 year and half, it's been bad enough I personally am happy to forget it. TBH.

Back to the License fee etc

Can anyone tell me the total number of occupied households in 2020 (included holiday homes)?

I was basing it on this-when I went to see what time 'V Day' aka the Vaccines documentary was on, I typed 'V Day RTE' into Google.

First article that popped up was from last year. Even RTE were calling it 'V Day'

vacine day is a typical nothing thing put out by RTE people watching in and getting all excited seeing some oldies getting their jab .Good for the people getting the jab but hardly merits a programme about it as everybody who wants one will get it no big deal .

So there are four things about the €60m figure that has to be addressed.

    1. Number of households with a person over the age of 70, I estimate being between 100,000 to 150,000 households.
    2. The total number of households in the country.
    3. The number of business paying for their license.

If we exclude businesses, I am only getting to non-payment of the license fee by the public of between €20m and €30m

Total licenses collected in 2020 by An Post was 1.433m
Total number of households was 1.809m in 2016
of which 117,123 where people over the age of 70 living alone
    which gives 1.7m households
takeaway an estimate of 100,000 households with a person over the age of 70 bring the total number of households to 1.6m

houses refusing to pay is around 177,000, of which a certain amount are avoiding because they don't have a TV.

And the 4th thing we need to ask

    4. are the over 70s included in An Posts collection numbers? and if so why?

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,504 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Not only over 70s get a free TV licence

The plucked the number out their arse

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,965 ✭✭✭✭elperello

If it's any help to you, a person I know recently had their 70th birthday and received the household benefits package.

A TV licence for life was issued online with instructions to print it off.

When the renewal date for their previous licence came there was no notification.

Based on this I see no reason why An Post would have any involvement in over 70's TV licences but I am open to correction.

I would agree but do An Post add the over 70s (et al) as part of the collected number? So the DSP say to An Post we have issues X number of Free TV Licenses, which for An Post's annual report is add on to the total number of TV licenses collected.

i.e. No of Free License + No of License Sold = 1.433m licenses

If so then perhaps RTÉ €60m figure is correct.

According to the DSP Annual Reports

    2018: 439,173 - @160 - €70,267,680
    2019: 450,800 - @160 - €72,128,000

In 2019 they restored some of this fund to the TV Licence of 5m, I am not sure how much they actually give into the over all TV Licence pot.

From An Post's Annual Reports for the same year
    2018: 1.481m TV licences sold ~ €236,960,000
    2019: 1.481m TV licences sole ~ €236,960,000

This leads me to 2 points either

    1. An Post TV licences sales include ~450k from the DSP, question: Why?
    or
    2. DSP do not pay the full amount for "free" TV licenses, question: Why?

what part of the report are you seeing those DSP figures? The info I can see is in Table H2 which shows €55M for 2018 and €63.61M for 2019. the number of recipients for 2018 is given as 443,580 and 455,439 for 2019 in Table H5.
