Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Guardian willing to run it as their main story this evening so it probably has legs.

Felipe Anderson to West Ham is done. €33.5m rising to €42m, according to the Guardian. He joins Ryan Fredericks, Lukasz Fabianski, Issa Diop, Jack Wilshere, Andriy Yarmolenko and Fabián Balbuena.

On paper, that's a good bunch. Wonder how they'll gel this season? Good manager, some talented players...

Would imagine it'll be a 4-2-3-1 with Fabianski / Fredericks, Diop, Balbuena, Cresswell / Obiang, Wilshere / Anderson, Lanzini, Yarmolenko / Arnautovic if everyone was fit. That middle looks a bit weak though but the rest looks good.

Also reports of Southampton bidding €20m for Danny Ings. Makes sense. Ings is a good footballer, a hard worker who has had rotten luck with injuries, but he needs to go somewhere to play regularly.

Southampton, Newcastle, Huddersfield, Bournemouth would all make sense.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40,061 ✭✭✭✭Harry Palmr

I for one would love it if Liverpool actually sold a player to Southampton (mind you they might demand him as a freebie at this stage!)

Terrible risk at that price. Has played what, 25 to 30 games in 3 seasons?

Lanzini is out for the season. Bernard will be Lanzini's replacement when he signs.

It really isn't. Southampton are gagging for any source of goals. Putting 20m on potential goals seems like good business given that's what they struggled with last year.

They aren't going to get a better option for the same money in the current market.

I see Andy Carroll has ruptured something while socialising - can an offer for Sturridge be far away?

I also assume the rest of that winger transfer chain should start now since Antonio is surplus at West Ham now.

He’d rupture something at the thought of an offer.

A freebie? They've been handsomely rewarded for each and every one of the players they sold. It's not like they were dealing with Daniel Levy!

25 in all competitions for Liverpool, a decent number of which were sub appearances too. Like I said, I feel sorry for the lad with his injuries.

Not sure it's a major gamble though. He's only 25 (26 next week) and while he's been injured, it wasn't like it was a recurring injury. The first one was his left knee, the second his right. You'd be more concerned if it was a persistent back injury or something.

Plus, in the current market, 20m isn't a bad price. 20% of it goes to Burnley under the tribunal agreement so Pool probably added on a little for that, he's English which always adds to it, and given that Southampton just dropped that much on Carrillo, they're the first to know that shopping abroad in that bracket doesn't necessarily mean better value!!

Always loved this article about him from years back:

    https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/newcastles-andy-carroll-orgy-claims-3346563
The hitman - linked today with a summer move to Chelsea as Didier Drogba's long term successor - is alleged to have yelled "ride me, ride me" as he romped with a blonde and a brunette in a catsuit.

Nearly as funny as the time he tore a thigh muscle after falling off a stool in a casino while absolutely hammered. This wasn’t long before we signed him too, he was still recovering from that injury when he arrived at Anfield.

I know Higuain is being linked to Chelsea but is there anyone that could be potential Hazard/Courtois replacements being linked? The two of them seem to be waving at Madrid saying we know you were looking at DeGea and just lost Ronnie, why not look this way, you did see us looking decent at the world cup didn't you?

They appear to be paying a premium for the fact he had a contact at Liverpool, one he got as he was cheap and available, then turned out not to be available much at all. He has one goal since 2015.

I know value is determined by what a team is willing to pay, I still think it is a risk to pay out 20 million for someone who is back from significant injuries.

    Great deal for Liverpool.

Why? If he can improve Liverpool's goals conceded (and not have many errors) it'll be a huge improvement over what is currently there?

Cos I think he ain't worth it. Only an opinion of course, but jez, its a pile of cash for a goalkeeper.

Time will tell if I'm right or wrong.

There's a very good thread on him by a Liverpool fan (LFC Torres) on twitter who has done his research on him.

Does all the usual goalkeeper stuff well - such as saving shots he should save and quite often saving shots he's not expected to save (unlike our current keepers), but Alisson's real strength is his passing and ability to switch defense to attack quickly.... essentially adding another element to our press and counter attack.

It's a ton of beans for a keeper but if he saves us 10 points a season which we'd otherwise lose, from a pure shot-stopping standpoint, as well as earn extra points thanks to goals coming via his fast and accurate distribution.... it will be money well spent.

Oh I think it's to much as well. But if he helps the Liverpool backline become more solid then most fans would say it's money well spent.

Fairly obvious Pool need a better keeper so they are always going to be paying a premium when they went looking.
A gamble spending that money on Alisson, he had one season as first choice.Be interesting to see how it works out.

If looking for a young keeper to build a defense around I'd have thought Oblak would be a much better choice.Hes been top class for a few seasons now.Atletico might have no interest selling tho.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,497 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Oblak isn’t used to playing much with the ball at his feet, wouldn’t be ideal. Also doesn’t matter how interested Atletico are in selling, like every other footballer in Spain, Oblak has a release clause and that takes it completely out of the club’s hands if it’s met.

So, as usual with all the Spanish release clauses, more than any sensible team would actually pay

Roma are also going to add €10-€15m extra to the fee because we got Salah for little last summer.

Pretty much, but with transfer fees skyrocketing by the year, bargains will pop up here and there if contracts aren’t renegotiated. I think certain clubs would pay that for Oblak if they needed a goalkeeper, but Liverpool definitely won’t meet that release clause.

I said it in the Chelsea thread, anyone paying 60m+ for Alisson is mad.

That goes for Chelsea, Madrid or Pool.

Whats worse for Chelsea is we're going to lose Courtois for half of it and struggle to replace him without spending considerably more that what we make on him.
