Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Paco Alcacer gone to Dortmund from Barça on a 1 year loan with an option to buy.

Nice business from Marseille getting Kevin Strootman from Roma for 25m euros. Roma fans don't seem happy about it.

Also seems Mariano Diaz is heading back to Madrid from Lyon. That means Lyon really need a striker before the window shuts as they're very short on options up top. Rumours going around that they and Marseille are fighting it out for Celtic's Dembele.

Good bit of business (not) - sold him last year for €8m, buy him now for €30m.

Yaya Toure has passed a medical with a London club per his agent. Has also ruled out it being West Ham or Crystal Palace

    Probably definitely Leyton Orient.

Couple of years ago he would have been a banker to end up at QPR on mental money.

Its probably Fulham who are now spending insane amounts of money, not just to stay up but to push on in the PL it seems.

He said yaya had done a medical in London

    Not a London club

You can do a medical for any club anywhere in the world

PL clubs can’t sign free agents after the window closes anymore anyways. So it was just hyperbolic uninformed reaction from the media anyways.

Got a source for that ?

I'm sure they can once they left a space free in their squad.

Transfer Window closing actually means that Player Registration window is closed I imagined it as?

Dortmund really doing a number on Barcelona.
Sell Dembele for up to 140m & get Alcacer on a year loan.

Alcacer done well in his limited mins.

Links a bit old but can't find anything to contradict it.

    https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/new-premier-league-25-man-squad-3349993

    Relevant piece

"Clubs do not have to name a full squad of 25 if they do not have that many contracted players and in this case they can add free agents outside the transfer window. However if they have 25 eligible contracted players, they must be named."

Seville had a 35m fee agreed, Real took their optional buy back and will probably sell him to Seville tomorrow for a tidy 5m profit.

    Going on about free agents.

There's a real possibility that clubs will abuse this system in future.

Say city lose another keeper to injury. They own a few clubs around the world. They pick the beat keeper. They give him cash to "buy out of his own contract" or give that club cash to basically sack the player and pay up his contract.

That player is a free agent. Signs for city

If the money was good enough they could do it with any club really, not just one of their own

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,081 ✭✭✭Fromvert

Think when it comes to keepers you can get an emergency loan so it wouldn't be an issue for that position.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Looks like Lyon and Dembele have agreed terms. Now they have to reach an agreement with Celtic who want to find a replacement.

    https://twitter.com/lequipe/status/1034913031610945549

Have Celtic been linked with any strikers before the window shuts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,024 ✭✭✭✭Baggly

That would require city to only have 24 contracted pro's at their club to work.

If someone is already contracted at the club, they count towards the 25.

Fulham started July with 16 players, so even with all the signings there will be space in their squad.

The rule also states that the player must be out of contract before the window shuts (9th of August)

Negotiations between Betis and Barca for Rafinha have been going on for about two weeks now. Betis want to loan him with the option of buying at the end of the season whilst Barca want to sell him. Just looked there though and apparently Betis are going to get their way as the player really wants to go. (Helped by Bartra and Tello telling him to come in the press). It's a pity we haven't signed two full backs as back up. Would have been great to have signed zinchenko.

This could be to stop the buying of players from Spain(I’m sure more countries have similar rules)with release clauses, the player has to buy themselves out of the contract meaning they are effectively then a free agent(like Javi Martinez to Bayern and Herrera to United)

More like €21m, Real owned 35% of his rights. He is definitely staying, only strikers they have is Benzema and Mayoral(not good enough). So he will rotate with Benzema.

In the end Betis signed lo Celso on a season long loan with an option to buy at the end. I think that's good business. Although we need a full back as well.

Nice business from Marseille getting Kevin Strootman from Roma for 25m euros. Roma fans don't seem happy about it.

I can't blame them for being annoyed. Monchi has sold nearly every good player that was there when he arrived (except Dzeko, Florenzi & Manolas; all of whom came close to leaving at least once) & his signings haven't exactly lit the world on fire.

PSG leaving themselves short in midfield now. Verratti has a patchy fitness record & Rabiot seems to have no intention on staying after this season either. They have Lassana Diarra tho.......

He played for Tuchel for 3 years at Mainz, so Tuchel probably has a role for him.

Fair play to Amiens for pulling off the signing of Ganso. Loan deal but still.

Wonder will Dembele get his move to Lyon sorted before the window shuts or will Celtic hold out.

    Looks like it's happening.

    https://twitter.com/CelticFC/status/1035624537843552256

Lyon President Aulas saying tonight it's a 5 year deal, €22m. Lyon badly needed that signing.

Some nice deals by Ligue 1 clubs. Juan Bernat gone to PSG from Bayern for £12.5m. Nacer Chadli gone to Monaco for £10.8m. Bordeaux meanwhile have picked up Andreas Cornelius and Yann Karamoh on loan from Atalanta and Inter respectively.

Talk of Ben Arfa heading to Rennes as well, ending his tragic PSG spell. Would be nice to see him showcase his ability again.

There was reports last week that Perez was waiting for the FFP judgement on PSG to see if they had to sell one of their big stars. That report was meant to happen today.

I seen no news of it, take it they are OK.

Realmadrid have been outmuscled in the last 3 years by barcelona and even athletico. Not too long ago adebayor was staring for realmadrid. They need to do some shopping. Itll beintereati g how vinicius junior does

. Not too long ago adebayor was staring for realmadrid

This is patently false. He joined Real on loan for 6 months 7 years ago and played 22 games in all competitions scoring 8 goals.

At best he provided support to players like Higuain, Benzema and Kaka.

Pity the board didn't trust your manager then.

He told them the players he needed and the positions that needed to be filled before the window closed and they didn't trust his judgement.

As it turns out after the window closes and the manger was right.

That is hardly an issue with the window closing.

Interesting signing. Wonder if he still has anything left in his locker. 31 now and hasn't played a Ligue 1 game since April 2017 after being frozen out at PSG.

His contract with PSG expired in the summer. Don't know how many clubs were in for him but his old club Nice were interested. I like his explanation for why he decided not to go back to them: "I thought about it a lot, but I said to myself it is always difficult to get back with an ex-girlfriend."

Some interesting BIG numbers from football observatory covering the sane to the insane years (2010-2018)

    http://www.football-observatory.com/IMG/sites/mr/mr37/en/

    This one rather stuck out

    2KXJv.jpg

No shocks here other than RM being below Liverpool and the fact Bayern dominate Germany with such a small spend due to the Buli thing of running contracts down.

    2KXJC.jpg

Monaco definitely win the net spend trophy of those on both lists (Porto and Benfica might have done better ditto Udinese and Genoa)

Figure 3 makes interesting reading in terms of Spanish domination of Euro competitions over that 8 year period.

You always heard the argument that the Spanish clubs outspent everyone else and thats why they won everything.....despite them usually spending about half of what EPL does and always below Serie A (except one year). Real Madrid in hindsight did very well in that period despite being only No8 in the net spendings.

Also, why the very low Spanish spending in 2012 ???

The reason the Spanish spend is so low is because of how TV rights work in Spain. Barcelone and Real get more revenue from TV than the rest of the league combined, nobody else has the money to spend.

Premier League, Serie A and Bundisliga all split TV revenue evenly between all clubs in the top flight, so the league over all can spend more.

The TV revenue in La Liga changed a few years ago.

Its not as lob sided as it used to be.
LaLiga introduced a different system that aims to alleviate some of the disparity between its clubs.

The new model sees ten per cent of TV rights revenue given to second-tier Segunda B, with the remaining 90 per cent divided so that 50 per cent is equally shared between the league’s 20 teams, 25 per cent allocated according to results across the previous five seasons, and the final 25 per cent distributed based on metrics such as the number of television subscribers and viewers per match.
