Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Thoughts on the current situation?

I'm guessing the SU's issue isn't the rent hike itself (supply, demand anyone?) but the fact that Cúirt pulled this at such short notice during exams.

    Context/background:
Cúirt is one of the student accommodation complexes in Galway. On Friday, May 4 they announced a €1,000 rent hike for the 9 month leases next academic year (~€111.11 per month). The booking system opens for current residents on May 9 and for the general public on May 15. This gives current students less than a week (and factor in they announced this on a Bank Holiday!) to find an increased deposit. They also announced it in the midst of end of semester exams.

The SU has a statement here: https://www.facebook.com/NUIGalwayStudentsUnion/photos/a.138874812815067.12496.120206624681886/1689210391114827/?type=3. They have also been working on protesting the move, with a ~400 strong protest at lunch time today (May 8).

    400 bodies isn't much of a protest.

I think SU are complaining and rightfully about both timing and the increase. 25 quid a week increase is huge and very unfair

During exams though so fairly good considering that.
