There was one poster claiming at least six months ago that it had started inside Thurles town. Not confirmed though.

Could well have been. They definitely seem to be getting the preparatory work done anyway.

I was driving through Dunshaughlin today and noticed that open eir have ducting for fibre installed on some poles in the town (beside the cemetery). The urban build must have started. It's going to be a very well connected place in a short while!

I have heard of being dead on time, but having the dead online is sure to be controversial.

It's almost overkill what's going on in the town! For the past 4 months KN have been very busy working for both Virgin Media and Siro, works still going on and now the Eir urban FTTH has started too! That will be 3 separate urban fibre rings and 1 rural fibre network radiating from the town.

Ok, I give up - they can have Fibre To The Coffin, just so long as they stay in the box!

I noticed that too. I also saw them in one of the estates today, manholes open and lots of cones forcing people to walk on the opposite side of the road.
@Gonzo can you as a MOD move these posts to the urban thread?

I can't, I don't have mod rights for the broadband forum.

No infrastructure yet aside from ducting

Ah well, it'll make a mess of this thread if people mix the two.

Do you know the Huewai model number of the new eir modem?

It says it's sagecom f3000 I think the true model number is obscured
Doesn't appear to be huewai at all

Thanks for the info. I would have thought they'd stick with Huewai as they are the network supplier

Sagemcom are a French company so perhaps Xavier Niel got a good deal and put in a large order for this router with Eir while also ordering the same product for some of the other telecommunication companies he owns.

And here's me quietly hoping it had something to do with taking a moral stance against the organ harvesters.

I notice Sagecom have a line of GPON gateways. There has been rumours that open eir were going to move to an all in one solution that would replace the ONT. babi-hrse do any of these devices resemble the one you've seen?

Failing that it's likely one of these devices.

The F2000 was really showing it's age so no surprise that it has been replaced.

Based on the image of the new Fibre Box on the eir website I suspect it is one of the 'copper' modems on the Sagemcom website.

Something from here in a different case or maybe something slightly older.

It's a good thing, it means it will still be very easy for a customer to use their own router.

No it's not much different in shape from that f2000 1 VoIP port on the back instead of the usual 2 otherwise same in appearance from the outside looks a bit more fisher price. But ya can't judge a book by it's cover.

I would have like then to adopt the router I saw in a friend's house in Madrid using a movistar where the ont was the router but let's not derail thread

Thanks babi-hrse. Is there are any specs available from the user manual?

How much of the Rural FTTH Scheme is complete at this stage? And what’s the take up rate like? I know on my road 8 out of the 10 houses passed are connected.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,555 ✭✭✭✭Marlow

Approx 30-40k premises of the 330k not done yet.

OpenEIR have currently approx 350k premises in their prequalification lists, of which some can be doubles and a good chunk urban.

About 7000 premises are waiting to be enabled in November so far, which is part of that figure.

So 2 years later than promised and still not even finished.
Trust Eir to make a balls of it.

Just a bit of advice - don't get too excited :p

I'm sitting here 4 months after I first saw that green light and i'm not likely to get a working connection for at least another 2 months yet!
