Mine was installed about a month when a second, different, eir rep called trying to sell me the service so they obviously do more than one pass of an area.

    https://www.eir.ie/opencms/export/sites/default/.content/pdf/pricing/Part3.1.pdf

Note 3 on the FTTH section:

    (3) An activation fee of €49.99 (inc. VAT) applies for all new and winback connections from 23rd August 2018.

I forgot that I actually saw this before.

Seems they are still on some sort of discount.

This is for the standalone though.

Hi guys and thanks for all the information in this thread. I'm down for the second half of 2018 and I had a slight hope until I read here that they are way behind.

Right now I'm on the normal dsl or vdsl and a few weeks ago the phone line went out but my broadband stayed on, when the guys fixed the phone line my broadband speed was less. The guru's on phone from eir sent out a technician which I was grateful and the guy told me if I'm down for 2018 I should be connected as eir apparently didn't take their guys off the fibre rollout even for the major storms, they contracted people in.

I know it's all heresay and after reading here I seriously doubt I'll be connected by the end of this year which is very disappointing.

Oh yeah, and they couldn't fix my speed issues after the problem of the phone outage in the area, just can't get the staff :D

Nothing you can do really to escalate those issues - they will fix them when they fix them.

I love the village gossip sometimes (if the info you get from the village is gospel) - the other day I was chatting to a fella from the village and he said he spoke to an open eir engineer up a pole and said "whats the hold up in the village for the fibre" and apparently the open eir guy said to him "the issue is the cabinet up at the park , its an absolute mess inside there - no-one wants to touch it!" - I am presuming thats what they call the node cabinet then? ... so anyway , thats what it must be - i interpret that the cabinet is full of a mess of a load of wires and needs tidying up when they get around to it and connect maybe the fibre from the poles to the cabinet then and clean that wiring all up before we get any kind of FTTH here where I am.

It definitely is annoying. But atleast you know you are not alone. Are you listed on http://irelandoffline.org/map/#!/map ?

ours is CNY - Coolaney ... I thought we were to be fed from Collooney but it seems our parent should be Rathedmond and CNY (coolaney) as the node - if i have heard correctly

It doesn't have a VDSL service either according to the map? (although that could have changed in the past 3 months)

CNY1_E01 down for Q3/Q4'18 according to Openeir plan.

I'm not really sure how to use that map, I selected ADSL2 upto 24mbs and my area showed up as fibre program 2017-2020. For the love of god, I hope it's next year at the latest that I get fibre, the slow speeds are driving me crazy at this stage.

There are no other decent providers in my area, some neighbours have fixed wireless but they tell me it's not great.

Well at least you know there is a fibre route to your exchange :D

Yeah, for that true power user experience you need the FTTH more and more.

ah right thanks - yes easily done and loads of people have mixed the 2 up .. silly how they are so similar. I've often said Coolaney should have been changed to be referred to as its Irish name Cúil Áine
( cool onya - instead of Cool annie) and then it wouldnt sound so similar to Collooney :)

Also, Rathdemond is the main NGA exchange for Sligo Town and the surrounding exchanges.

Thats why all the FTTH enabled exchanges in the area have to tie back back to Rathdemond.

yes I dont think it even has VDSL to this date myself - maybe am wrong but in the summer and winter of 2017 they were running fibre cables across poles on the back road from Collooney to Coolaney coming from the Collooney direction and when I asked they said its for fibre to the cabinet - I thought brilliant we are finally getting fibre in the village (albeit the rest transmitted by copper cables) and I put it in the fibre rollout and it did indeed say 'Work Commenced' now I was thrilled at that but in may / june this year I saw them putting the fibre on the poles outside our house and the 3M DP boxes - imagine my surprise then! not only FTTC but actually FTTH - couldnt believe it! - when people have asked me in the past about fibre I had said to them "I can see one day fibre to the cabinet, but I cannot see them putting in FTTH ever in this small village, it just wouldnt be viable" thats what i used to say to people ... and now look its running right along outside my house!! (well running along poles and connected to a manhole cover into manhole cover in pavement straight outside my house at the moment - not live it seems)

A lot of Sligo has been left hanging like that. They've also strung fiber from Riverstown to at least within a mile of Castlebaldwin. The VDSL cabinets in Castlebaldwin have also been placed. That was 12-18 months ago.

It's been tagged with the status "in progress" ever since. Not live.

Just to be able to watch iptv and let the kids enjoy their games without lagging. For me the years are flying in and nothing seems to be happening with the broadband situation.

I remember back in 2008 listening to some goon from the Green Party on the tv spouting on about by 2012 Ireland would be fully connected. I dunno

ah right so even though i have seen the fibre cables coming from Collooney to Coolaney on the back roads the fibre is not actually coming from Collooney exchange then ... the feed is coming from Rathedmond instead ? - have I that correct now?

According to Openeir plans it's down for both FTTC and FTTH. Those closer to the cabinet will get FTTC and the outskirts will get FTTH.

Is there one of the cabinets on the right at

I mean he isn't wrong, you can get *some* form of connection wherever you are in Ireland, whether it be Satellite, Fixed Wireless, ADSL Copper, Coax Hybrid or now FTTH. You just won't get an amazing connection.

Both Collooney and Coolaney exchanges are NGA sub-exchanges to Rathdemond.

god, doesnt half get your hopes up when you see them stringing up the fibre cable like that and installing the DP boxes on the pole - gives you a false sense of hope . You are like "well they are putting all this into action and it all looks like its nearing the end " .... and then nothing , for weeks or months and your like "whats this , come on, your on the last leg why have you stalled now like this??"

and you are checking on the site and it says 'work commenced' and 'work in progress' and then you are like "hold on maybe its gone live but they havent updated the website and so its still saying work commenced" - really has you thinking / wondering will it be done at all this year because it keeps stopping and starting one minute the village is filled with open eir vans and workers up poles and in manholes and feeding through cable ... and then they are gone for weeks/months on end and its all stopped and going back to being quiet sleepy village!

ah right thanks - so is coolaney what some have called the node then and the parent is Rathedmond? - which is why when open eir put CNY/CNY on the apq list it was wrong because you cannot have the parent and the node exchange in the same place - is that what it is?

If it is , you would think with their expertese they would have realised you cannot havethe parent and the node exchange at the same place and would have realised when they first added it to the list (whoever added it to the list)

Doubt it but funny if it was a matter of Collooney and Coolaney both being CNY and someone seeing this, thinking it was broken and removing it.

I mean, not funny for you though.

Basically, when an exchange gets NGA enabled, either it's a parent NGA exchange or it gets re-homed to a parent exchange.

If OpenEIR makes a balls of it, they "forget" to rehome said sub-exchange in time for it's "ready-for-order" date.

    This can have 3 causes:
    - they didn't finish the FTTH build before the date, it was supposed to actual target date
    - they didn't connect the sub-exchange back to it's parent for the actual target date
    - they "forgot" to update their internal database.

Or ...2 maybe all 3 of above.

The result of that scenario is, that wrong data is submitted to the wholesale partners or customers are left dangling. Fixing this can take from 1 week to 3 months .. if you're lucky. Took over 2 months in Castlegregory, Co. Kerry for example.
